Netflix: Any good recent flicks/series?
Netflix: Any good recent flicks/series?
It's a huge place and clearly there are some gems hidden. Some good films/series and some that are more the three-beer type. :p
What are some decent ones you have "discovered" as of lately?
* Starcrash: Campy 1978 sci-fi film with David Hasselhoff. it's a rip-off of like 5 other movie franchises with big hair and lightsabers
* The Walking Dead: 30+ hours of zombie TV drama. Not the best but...30 hours of time-kill.
* Tucker & Dale VS Evil: A clever campy slasher film that kills as many tropes as it does nameless two-dimensional campers.

Well, i watched the entire Heroes series on there. I can't commit a designated time each week to sit down and watch TV, so if i watch a TV series it has to be through Netflix. I watched The Walking Dead 1-2 there too and so far i've held out from watching any of it on TV while it's on, but i am DVR'ing it.
As for hidden gems:
Cashback: A British movie about a guy who finds that he can stop time while working third shift at a grocery store. I found this movie funny/interesting because I have a retail background. There is also huge amounts of nudity which never hurts lol. The nudity is "artsy" if that matters.
Castaway On The Moon: Japanese (?) film about a guy who attempts suicide by jumping off a bridge into a river, only to wake up stranded on a small island in the middle of it clearly within view of the surrounding city but nobody knows he's there. It's in subtitles, and is pretty slow, but you know how Netflix is, when you're bored and it's "free" you'll watch anything. It was pretty cool/funny.
I did watch Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, pretty funny. Beyond that i'm currently watching every episode of South Park back to back, and i've watched a lot of Top Gear. The rest are the obvious block buster type movies that everyone watches.

We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

Yea I've been watching that too. I stayed away from it for a long while due to the content; not a mild mannered person but prefer to avoid questionable stuff. Similar to Dexter it's just an extremely solid production. In fact, some of the highest quality TV for a long time. I've seen movies with less impacting acting and character development than a single episode. :)zunedog31 wrote:Breaking Bad is outstanding.

I enjoy absurdity and action and to that end, I suggest
Shaolin Grandma
Killer Elite
Batman Year 1
FDR: American Badass
I also enjoy Lie to Me.

I'm a huge Breaking Bad, Firefly, and Archer fan. Also enjoyed Battlestar Galactica and Tucker & Dale. Here's a few that haven't been mentioned yet that I'd also recommend:
TV
Arrested Development
Chuck
Leverage (I just started watching it, but am hooked)
The Big Bang Theory
Louie
Movies
The Cabin in the Woods
The Game
Troll 2 (so painfully bad, it's good!)
Super (starring Rainn Wilson)
Pity I can't watch Starcrash on Netflix, as I've wanted to see this cinematic gem for some time. Oddly, I can't even seem to find a listing for the movie on Netflix.
If you're into classics, foreign films, and independent cinema, then I have tons more movies I could recommend as well.
