That sounds pretty brutal - but I think it is appropriate for folks who constantly brag about eating things that are hot.

Hottest I've ever had was probably eating a raw habanero - those are pretty strong. Brought tears to my eyes IIRC. I tend to eat things hotter than average, but my days of braggadocio are over.

for their own good, advise them to take a small bite- say that they can eat the whole thing if they feel game enough- and wink ;)

I grew some ghost chilis this year and didn't find them to be terribly hotter than the Red Savinas I grew last year.

Ate one yesterday and it was hot, but the real trouble started when it worked its way through my system.

It was not pleasant.

I've had habaneros that weren't all that strong comparatively, but a lot of them are far stronger than that. The hottest can be over 500K, but still not as high as those scorpions.

I've also had hot sauces in the 1.6mil range once or twice I think and those were pretty harsh, but I just tasted a drop or 3 so it was easier.

Love the hot foods, great way to warm up when it's -40c outside.

Usually pick up a dozen thai (bird's eye) peppers at 100-150k, to get through a week. Couple of them in a pot of rice noodles sure liven things up. Great when it's +30c out and you can still break out in a sweat indoors.

I'm not crazy enough yet to jump at the 1mil+. Scotch Bonnets at up to 350k are enough to warm me up. As far as why we do it? Endorphines baby.
