Hi JD, like someone who posted who from Australia, Guava leaves (or Bayabas leaves in Manila) when boiled in water is great to use for washing wounds. Not sure if it can fight infection but definitely good for the wound. Malunggay leaves mixed with soup(don't know it's English counterpart) is good for blood circulation. The vegetable Ampalaya (again dont know the english word for it) is also good for blood.

I pray that you do not smoke and that it is not Buerger's Disease. Get well soon!

I wasn't saying any specific person was more paranoid. I think how the media operates, it makes everyone more paranoid.

Hypothetical:
If you see in the news one new disease every single day. (I swear I do see new drug advertising often enough, but not every day.) <= The people who are paying for research of diseases are also the companies that sell the drugs that treat the diseases. If medical companies make weaker drugs to treat disease so you'll have to buy more.

It seems funny that in any other business, false advertising, false claims, marketing new problems, and making a product for cheaper wouldn't surprise anyone. When it comes to medicine, it is a big surprise. Maybe I'm just the paranoid one. :D

Greetings and Welcome to the Spyderco Forum Arnis Student.

I have indeed heard of Guave Leaves over the years as I have dabbled in health and herbal remedies off and on for many years now. I will do some checking into that potential remedy.

I will also check out the other veggies you've suggested although they may be a bit tough to find here in the States. But again we welcome you to the Great Spyder Forum and I do appreciate your input. JD

Thanks for the input VashHash :) I've been a big fan of natural honey for many years now. I even seriously looked into being a bee keeper at one time. There are many things that natural honey and bee pollen can help and I've been aware of honey's beneficial properties for some time now.

The same goes with the pollen too>> it also has to come fresh out of the hive to attain any significant benefits. I'm not sure what propolis would do for this infection but I'm going to do some checking for sure.

Agree 100% Paul. I think we've caused a lot of the problems we're seeing these days.

You're in our thoughts and prayers, Joe! Get well, brother!

Hi Joe. I am in no way qualified to give any medical advice, I can only wholeheartly wish you a full and quick recovery. Get well soon, my friend!

Thanks Dialex and all my other Spyder Brethren ( Sisters too :D ) for all the well wishes. This is truly the most puzzling afflection I've ever dealt with. For the past 2 days I hardly had no pain what so ever and today it's as though someone has set it on fire again. I've been celebrating the 4th of July by eating pain killers and anti-inflamatory meds trying to keep this under control.

I go back to the Doc Friday the 6th so I'll see what she has to say. It's as though whatever this is it won't go down easy. I just ordered some stuff that Doc recommended to me and I'm anxious to see how that will work out.

I do appreciate all the suggestions and PMs you all have sent me and I'm going to try out most of them to see how they work. This infection has been a real puzzler to say the least. GOD Bless all of you good folks for your great suggestions and get well soon wishes. I'll keep you all posted. JD

Hang in there, JD. You'll be fine. You're in my prayers. Have you tried Silver water, or tincture, or whatever it's called? I hear it kills viruses, etc. Not sure exactly, but that's what I hear. Take care.

- best wishes, Jazz.

I reckon you're referring to colloidal silver, Jazz. It's pretty easy to make at home, and you can make many years worth with a fairly modest start up cost. Would likely work here - might need something like DMSO/MSM/both to get it into the infected area, but it should be safe and at least somewhat effective. Some folks drink it regularly, but when you do it can eventually turn your skin blueish (the condition is known as Argyria, unsightly but not dangerous, still you would have to drink a lot regularly to have said effect). I wouldn't hesitate to try it on an infection, adding DMSO to get through the skin.

JD, hope you are feeling better and beat this thing.

As someone who has survived two massive infections, here's my input.
Diamondback wrote:One thing you might seriously consider is taking a good probiotic supplement to restore the beneficial bacteria that normally inhabits the gut....and has been wiped out by the antibiotics. Nature abhors a vacuum, and so often after a round of antibiotics a yeast infection, or worse, colitis caused by problematic bacteria and their toxic by-products will overwhelm the colon.

A good probiotic, while it won't cure infection, will help to boost immune function over time.
This is excellent advice, in fact the same advice my doctor gave me. If you have to be on large doses of antibiotics for an extended time, you really need the probiotic during and after the course of treatment. It may be a good idea to take it for the rest of your life, I do.

If you're not already, I'd advise seeing an infectious disease specialist. They're not all that common, or even available in some areas, but worth their weight in gold.

Some of the new super antibiotics can be really hard on your liver and have some of the side effects you have mentioned. Doctors don't like to talk about this, but they usually will if you initiate the discussion.

It can take a long time to build your body back up from the beating a major infection gives it. Get as much exercise as you can and increase your level of exertion until you're back to normal. This can take months, be patient.

J.D. , make sure to keep up with your vitamins and minerals especially while on meds in those classes. You can probably do without stress types, or anything with high iron but some supplements wouldn't hurt.

I had a spyder bite like that one time, but it didn't make me as sick. It kept on opening and oozing , closing, then opening again all the while showing signs of redness and some rashes up too a couple inches away. That was the first shoulder that I had to have surgically rebuilt with two operations as the clavicle sort of turned into a edged type slicer that shredded my rotator cuff. It even began falling out of the socket from doing things like opening the refrigerator door.

It was a two surgery multi year process getting strength and motion back but it'll never be the same. This was while I was still superman and two ninjas tied together, working two- to three jobs, lifting weights, running, etc.

Apparently it?/something/whatever??? triggered my immune system into doing the damage to the bones, a problem that has continued and worsened in some ways. Some of the problems are just mechanical damage too from life.

Anyway, the bite never completely went away until I soaked it in an old fashioned mineral salt bath, and used homemade poultices keeping the clear liquids coming out.

It's different from your situation naturally but it shows that sometimes strange things do happen and you need to keep looking until you find something that works. I felt pretty miffed at that time that a little spider could annoy me so much while I was walking around the prison working the most dangerous jobs they had and doing it with no real difficulties. After all, I was superman. :o So I thought anyway. ( getting shanked used to really get me hostile. Very hostile in fact). That bite wept for at least two years.

Anyway, I know your personality enough to know that you really don't have a lot of quit in you. You wouldn't still be here if you did. Now that's established it's just a matter of details as they say. It's not if you overcome, but how and when.

In the mean time remember we are saying prayers, and rooting for you.

Pretty similar to what I was going to suggest: hot peppers, garlic, salmon, halibut, and lots of juice.

I highly recommend getting a quality juicer -- you will be able to take in massive amounts of natural vitamins from fruits and vegetables, and enjoy fresh juice that blows away anything you could ever hope to find in a store!

I'm pretty sure he is talking about Colloidal Silver. I used to have friend who had his own Colloidal Silver generator. It is curious because they've been using some silver impregnated bandages and a silver impregnatad gauze called AG Aquacel. And it does seem to be doing some good. I am aware of silver's anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. I have heard however that you better know what you're doing with Colloidal Silver solution because if you do it wrong you can literally change your skin color to a pale blue or gray

I'm currently waiting for the herbal stuff that Doc recommended and that will be my very next line of attack. I've also made friends iwth some Native Americans who come to our facility who have offered to take me to see a medicine man they know. But again I'm going to try Doc's recommendation first.

I Sincerely thank you all for the great input and suggestions you all have offered up. I am going to keep you all posted on my progress and let you all know what happens. This is pain and misery like I've never had it before. It's truly raised my compassion level for my fellow human beings and animals too.

For years I took for granted not having any serious pain and now I know what many people deal with when they get down. And trust me this won't derail my quest for my next Spyder :D

Load up on tons of probiotics for your gut. The antibiotics kill the natural flora in your intestines and are responsible for some of your lack of energy. Eat tons of yogurt, but making simple yogurt yourself (look it up, very simple) is the best. 1-2 daily for a few months.

I had a similar, but much less serious situation and it helped me out tremendously. Also, doesn't affect your current treatment.

About a decade ago my wife had a Strep infection that antibiotics couldn't cure, we went to infectious disease specialists in both California and PA, no joy. Went to alt med specialist who did some blood tests (I think maybe mumbo jumbo) and then gave her a special diet--basically don't eat anything white--dairy, refined grains, potatoes, sugar. She was cured in two weeks.
Flash forward till about 4 years ago. Dear friend horribly, horribly burned--many fingers, part of nose, ears all burned off. He got staph infection that antibiotics couldn't cure. He also went alternative med route--this time in Connecticut. That group recommended basically same diet my wife was on. It worked for him too. He still gets flare ups, but when he does, he reverts to the "no white" diet.

I'm very much aware of "probiotics" which renew the good flora in your intestines. I eat a lot of yogurt>> I also eat a lot of "goat's Milk yogurt". Don't laugh because "goat's milk" has a ton of healing properties especially in the gastrointestinal areas of the body. I am very blessed with a great health food store very close by that has the really good grades of yogurt ( not the garbage you get at the grocery store).

I'm done with the antibiotics for the time being anyway. And I won't do anymore until I try this other method. This wound/infection has been on the biggest living nightmares of my life. But I'm getting some great advice from many of you all here at Spyderville. I was also told by my doctor over the phone yesterday that anything that will increase my blood circulation would also be a big plus. I do thank all of you for your great input. JD

The only advice I have to add is to eat garlic if you can stomach it. Garlic has worked for me during long-term bacterial infections. I'm allergic to the penicillin family, so this is great reading for me too. Get well soon JD!
