New project in the works...

#1

Post by Frapiscide »

I'm planning on making some knife/flashlight/etc. lanyards and practice my machining skills at the school. They'll be a standard square knot, the square being about 0.500" long and below it will be a custom titanium bead 0.4375" in diameter. I hope to get some in the works and get some pics up. Expect the pictures to come up in around week or so.

First couple will be made of high strength 10-2-3 Titanium since I have some left over from making a necklace, and then the next ones will probably be made of 6-4 Ti.

I'd like to post the concept of the bead itself, but unfortunately my copy of SolidWorks expired when summer vacation began.

THIS IS BY NO WAY A SELLING THREAD. I JUST WANT TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCES AND PHOTOS WITH THE MEMBERS OF THE SPYDERCO FORUM.

This is what it'll roughly look like. Differences being that the paracord will thread through it, the design of the titanium will be different and shorter, and I probably won't heat anodize it.

By the way, Titanium wears out High Speed Steel lathe cutters SUPER fast. A couple of passes taking off a couple thousandths and it's already really dull. Considering getting a carbide cutter...

Keep us posted on how the Ti machining goes. I've a few projects down the track that I'll need to put the mill and lathe to use on.

FWIW fellow forumite "Zackerty" had an helpful thread regarding machining Ti some time back on British blades forums.

It was partially inspired by the CRK Sebenza. Clean, simple, and funtional.
