Re: What are you listening to?
Doc Dan’s thread, Favorite Tom Hanks Movies brought to my mind Tom Hanks’ directorial debut film, That Thing You Do (1996), my favorite Tom Hanks movie, and also brought to mind the song of the movies’ title. I hadn’t thought about it in years, but used to marvel at how well the early-to-mid-1960s retro sound and lyrical style was recaptured in a song written in the mid-‘90s, which had definitely NOT been an easy accomplishment. Hearing it again 25 years later, I still marvel at it.

Right now, The Matt Walsh podcast from the Daily Wire.
Lately, I've also been listening to a Teaching Company series called Daily Life in the Ancient World. It's very interesting and the professor is excellent.

Re: What are you listening to?
Imo, this song is the best country song ever written and sung. By imo, the most underrated country music singer and my favorite ( I really am biased - )
I was looking at the Rolling Stones 100 greatest Country Music Songs and, this song and singer weren't even in the top 25. They actually had a Taylor Swift song in the top 25.........at any rate, this is just all my opinion. I'm not trying to start a who's the best Country Singer and best song ever. But, I am astonished that this song, or any of his songs weren't in the Top 25
Imo, he was the best. He didn't have a long career but, my goodness did he ever light it up.
W/Out further ado, Earl Thomas Conley and "Holding Her & Loving You"

Re: What are you listening to?
This past weekend I delved into some old albums. There was a British group that in the 70s & 80s were huge over in Europe but for whatever reason never could gain the stardom here in the USA as they did overseas. But they were considered a "Super Group" in their home country UK.
I'm speaking of ROXY MUSIC led by lead singer Bryan Ferry. I was an avid ROXY MUSIC fan during the 70s especially. My favorite album of theirs was entitled "SIREN". It had a picture of one of Bryan Ferry's former girlfriends on the front who later jumped ship to Mick Jagger of all people. Her name is Jerry Hall.
The SIREN album had 3 of my all time favorite ROXY MUSIC tunes. "Love IS The Drug" is arguably their most successful single they ever released. The album also had "Both Ends Burning" and "Just Another High".
Roxy Music may have been one of the most classy bands ever put together.

It's really crazy to think that 9/11 was 20 years ago today. Like anybody else of age to remember the events, I have a very vivid memories of that day and days after. I'll never forget I was packing up my things that morning to head to school in my freshman year of college. There were reports of a plane hitting the one of the towers playing on the tv as I was getting ready, and I remember thinking how terrible that was, what a horrific accident that probably happened because of a mechanical failure. I hopped into my car, threw in the Sum 41, All Killer No Filler debut album and drove the 20 minute or so drive to school.
Once I got there, there was a lot of commotion in the parking lot. I got out and asked a group of guys standing by some cars near me, what was going on?? That's when I heard there was a 2nd plane and that it looks like terrorist attacks and that classes were pretty much cancelled, people were leaving left and right. I remember hopping back into my car, feeling very scared about what was going on and instantly called my mother at work. She was crying, watching things unfold on tv at her work at this point. I still haven't seen any tv and internet on cell phones wasn't a thing yet (at least for me) She said we shouldn't be in any immediate danger, but for me to head back home.
I still to this day remember, 20 years later...that it was exactly this song playing on the CD player when I turned my car back on to drive home, that I knew our lives would never be the same again.
