Joe,

The Voice is my favorite ‘80s song. IIRC, it came out around the time I graduated from high school. I’ve always felt the lyrics carried a deeper meaning (in a spiritual sense) than many songs. I like The Voice as much as, if not more than, the Moody Blues’ ‘60s-era songs.

Yep, That song hooked me the first time I heard it. They have a few I like but that is definitely one of my favorites. Maybe I'm nostalgic today.

This next one reminds me of not being able to sleep and listening to late night radio. In my case WMMS Cleveland in the 70's. Some ELP

ELP were real musicians also. Example:

Not bad for 3 guys.

Good songs, Joe.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer had a lot of good stuff. Amazingly, Greg Lake wrote Lucky Man when he was only 12 years old.

That song always reminds me of what an infantry officer once told me . As an officer sometimes all you can do is show your soldiers how to die like a soldier and a man. He meant what he said.

I was saddened when Both Emerson and Greg Lake passed. I believe Carl Palmer is still with us. Drummers are a different breed. I had a friend who I worked and traveled with who kept his kit in the trunk. He could listen to a song twice and play the drum with solos exactly. The guy never tired. He could play snooker for two days and nights continuously with no sleep. Just beer and an occasional sandwich. :)

Still nostalgic. Dave Brubeck "Take 5"

I don't reinforce my rock roots nearly enough. I grew up as a 90's grunge kid and eventually explored and appreciated every other genre. Now I feel like I need to go back and reinforce where it all began. The 2000s rock scene felt like lots of kids with eyeliner and hair gel. I understand that this is not actuality, but only my experience in a place in time.

There are a ton of musicians who are absolute geniuses that came about in this age, and there is so much music to discover for only 24 hours in a day.

I love and appreciate anyone who contributes to the world artistically in any form. Without their passion and courage, Earth would be a very bland place.
So it goes.

I always liked this song. It came out in 1974, and had a “retro” sound that was inspired by the early ‘60s surf songs by The Beach Boys, and Jan & Dean. Funny thing is, I never cared for the music of The Beach Boys, or Jan & Dean, and I felt this song was better than anything they did. I used to think that First Class, the band that recorded Beach Baby, was from California, or at least from the States. First Class was actually a British studio band, and the song was recorded in London.

Back in 1975, I bought one of those K-Tel compilation albums that featured a collection of hits by different bands, it might have been called ‘Out of Sight’, specifically because it had this song on it.

This caught my eye, and in honor of the OKC Thunder new point guard from down under, Josh Giddey, I gave it a listen. Nice.

Same here! I'm 38, so I totally understand where you're coming from with the grunge scene. I was a DIE HARD Nirvana fan as an early teen. I'd steal my dads flannels when he would leave for work and wear them to school (likely 3 times larger than what I should have been wearing) Hahaha. Until my parents realized what I was doing and bought me my own. Chain wallet, before I had a wallet and would just hook chain to my belt loops :/

There is so much good music from that time period, you just have to find it. It all makes so much more sense now as an adult too. I've been listening to a lot of it lately. Brings me back to when life was a lot simpler, yet so complicated being a teenager/early 20's. Had some great times, followed by a lot of bad times made by poor choices. I'm definitely one of those people that music means a lot too and songs bring me back to past times and experiences. I like reflecting on those feelings and how I've grown since. This song is another great one I've always loved from Chevelle that I came across the other day, that meant a lot to me.
