I just got the new Shins album - Port of Morrow. Probably not everyone's cup of tea - but I'm a fan of their earlier discs, and at first listen, this one seems to meet my high expectations.

Nancy Wilson Ode to Billy Joe, In which I think is the best cover of the song.

Duke, The Lion and Doc aka Duke Ellington, Willie The Lion Smith and Dr. Billy Taylor doing Perido

Stevie Ray Vaughn/Jimmy Hendrix , both doing Voo Doo Child.

And The Ice Man, Jerry Butler doing What's the use of breaking up.

All live except Nancy Wilson.

While I was checking out The Shins (thanks Ted) I noticed they were once on Sub Pop, which was also home to Seaweed, one of my very favorite bands that I discovered in my early days getting into Hardcore and Punk.

I was amazed that I could even find a link for Squint, which still is my favorite tune from them.

One more here that is listening to The Shins, specifically their new album. It's decent, but overall I feel it lacks any standout tracks and doesn't seem to measure up to their previous works. Hopefully it grows on me with subsequent listens.

I'm with you, Jabba. It hasn't bowled me over yet - unlike the first two. Those two were "life changing experiences"...

I'm sure no one here has ever heard of the band, but I just got the latest release from GALNERYUS - Phoenix Rising. They are a Japanese neo-classical/progressive metal band (think Dream Theater with Yngwie Malmsteen) with a wicked guitar player, Syu, and catchy songs. I love virtuosi - be it guitar, drums, or even keyboards.
I can't even listen to any of the popular "music" today. It's all garbage to me.
