What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
The sound of an almost 8 year arguing with her mom that she's not tired and not ready for bed. She's trying to justify herself saying she might miss something important in the world if she's just laying in her bed and not sleeping. That not sleeping would be wasting her time. Well played child haha!

Now I was never a huge Doobie Brothers fan but there were some songs of theirs I did really like. And one of the very first albums I ever got to hear back in my high school days was their album called "Toulouse Street". I literally wore that album out along with David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album. I remember buying both of those albums on the same day in 1972.
They also had that one song I thought was a masterpiece called "Taking It To The Streets". They were talented for sure. But as they got bigger they just got too far in the top 40 crowd.
I actually liked the Byrds a lot better over all. And they were a great American band too.
Re: What are you listening to?
There were so many good songs out during that era that I liked songs from countless bands. That’s what strikes me today and what I didn’t realize or appreciate then; the sheer numbers and variety of great music and songs back then. And I liked all types of songs. Recently, I’ve even listened to some songs that I didn’t like, or thought were stupid back in the day, that in comparison to today’s pop music, actually sounds pretty good (IMO). A prime example of that for me is Afternoon Delight. I hated that song back in 1976, or whenever it came out. I still may not ‘like’ it, but hearing it in the context of current pop music, it wasn’t that bad of a song.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 5:38 pmNow I was never a huge Doobie Brothers fan but there were some songs of theirs I did really like. There are other songs I put in that category, too. In fact, I actually like some of the songs I disliked back then. Surprisingly, this song below is one of those. As a kid, I hated it and thought it was syrupy, and it reminded me of soap operas. But now it sounds pretty good, IMO. I’m not sure how many other guys around here would agree, but just compare its simplicity, and the actual ‘feeling’ put into it, without the need to add vocal acrobatics to try and impress the listener:

Glad you brought up Rita Coolidge Jim. I used to have Joe Cocker's very best album. It was a double album on A&M Records. It was entitled "Joe Cocker's "Mad Dogs & Englishmen". Rita Coolidge literally got her start singing in Joe Cocker's old band as many others did as well. But Rita Coolidge was one of his crown jewels for sure. He also helped to give a big start to the career of Leon Russell as well. I played that old "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" album so much I almost literally wore it out. Probably only David Bowies Ziggy Stardust album got more playing time in my entire collection. But Rita Coolidge was a superb talent and she was fabulous as a singer for Joe Cocker's group.

Absolutely; Rita Coolidge was one of the great voices of my childhood, so to speak. I got to meet her a few years ago, and what I noted most about her in person was her self-confidence, and at the same time, how down-to-earth she was.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 7:29 amGlad you brought up Rita Coolidge Jim. Re: What are you listening to?
Glad you brought up the Bachman/Turner Overdrive Jim. The one time I seen them in concert I really liked them. I wasn't a huge fan of their studio albums but they were a really adrenaline charged concert band for sure. And Randy Bachman ( formerly the guitarist for the "GUESS WHO") was a much better guitarist than I had even imagined.
However when I seen them in that particular concert at that time they were the back up band for Joe Walsh's band>> and Joe Walsh was on his "Rocky Mountain Way" tour. I was really a big Joe Walsh fan when he had his original band "The James Gang". In the summer of 1971 while still in high school I got to see the original 3 man line up of the James Gang in concert and they were fabulous. That to me was Joe Walsh's best band by far IMO.
Re: What are you listening to?
Believe it or not Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass were a huge favorite of my parents at that time ( mid 60s). I don't know if this is 100% true or not but I heard he made more money making Karen Carpenter into a star than he did with the Tijuana Brass
