A great EDC: Benchmade Mini Griptilian Photoshoot

Postby DedRok » Fri Sep 09, 2011 4:44 pm

Got this awhile ago, and to be honest this is my one and only true EDC. My knife collection is 90% Spyderco, and they are still my favorite, but this knife (mostly the axis lock) has it in my #1 position for an EDC. Thanks to the axis lock, opening and closing the knife one handed is next to effortless. If you haven't handled a knife with an Axis-Lock yet, I highly recommend you fondle with one at your local knife shop.

I have the regular size Griptlian, and I wouldn't put it in the same category as the Mini... to me the regular Griptilian is just tooooo wide and also feels like you are holding a hallow piece of plastic. Feels cheap, although its still a good knife. (just not for EDC in my opinion)

Yeah the Mini Grip is hard to beat. I have a 556 just like yours and I love it.

It may be Benchmade's entry level blue class knife but I think it is one of Benchmade's best knives regardless.

I currently only own three Benchmades. A 960, a 921, and a 556 but when I go to grab a BM to carry, it is always my 556 Mini Grip.

Outstanding knife.

I loved my Mini Grip! The Axis Lock is second to none. I traded her away in a deal for a Caly 3 that I just couldn't say no to. If I was to get another Grip, it would be the the full size (with the thumb hole :) )

Looks like it's due to be sharpened.

Yeah man your edge looks like you've been slicing concrete!

Funny, i was actually looking into buying this same knife a few months before i joined this forum...then i remembered the Native i had and how much i liked it, so i got back online and found Spyderco had a forum. The rest is history (and an empty wallet).

To be honest, the photo make it look worse than it really is.

I use this knife a lot, but you are correct it is due for a sharpening.

Thirdly, on that note... a negative con for the Griptilian is that the relief edge from factory is so effing small!!

Wow, I feel exactly the opposite of you. The mini grip was my first over $50 knife. I bought it because of the positive internet chatter on BF. Well, I couldn't have been more disappointed. I'm not trying to discount your opinion; it just didn't do it for me. Since then I've discovered my all time favorite EDC, the Para 2.
