EDC Flashlight carry

Postby unit » Fri May 13, 2011 9:01 am

Real simple question...for those that EDC a light, What do you carry, and where/how do you carry it?

I am trying out a new light that is about 1 inch in diameter (which is a bit thicker than the one I have been carrying) and I am curious what experienced carriers do.

I am not a tactical guy, just a guy that carries tools I use in a typical day...I do wear tactical pants because they are comfortable and have lots of pockets. Not sure if this helps, but I do not prioritize tactical/SD operations, I simply want a reliable means of carry that will not result in loss of the light, or discomfort.

Thanks for any tips you have for me ;)
Thanks,
Ken (my real name)

The True-Spec 24/7-pants have dedicated knife pockets, on both legs.
Right side takes my EDC, the left my Fenix.

If Im wearing dress pants, I have the "mini" E01 on me.
(plus a fullsize flashlight in my bag)

I switch between a few but it is mostly a 4sevens Mini 123 in my right front pocket or Fenix P2D also in the RFP.

When the winter is here(gets dark early) and I wear a jacket I tend to keep a surefire LX2 or Fenix P3D0+ in the jacket pocket.

I find these methods very convenient and do not notice the light is even there in most cases.

I carry a Fenix LD10 clipped in the left front pocket of my Dickies work pants. I barely even notice it and I've never had it come loose.

I normally carry a 1x123 sized light, with a clip in my front left pocket. I rotate between a 4Sevens Quark 123T (Neutral or R5), Dereelight C2H, Nitecore Extreme (Neutral or R2), and sometimes on the weekend I'll carry a 4sevens 123^2 Neutral.

Speaking of 1" diameter, I used to like carrying my Novatac 120P modded to a K2 emitter... until the driver died. It didn't seem to be too big to carry.

I need a flashlight very rarely so I have it in my bag, which is pretty much always with me. It's in a small side pocket where its easily accessible.
It's a 4Sevens Quark 123^2, so it will have enough power for whatever the task might be and won't run out of juice too soon. I also have a small cheapo LED in my keychain. I have considered getting a Preon1 for my keychain but since I need a light so rarely it has not been very high on my wishlist.

I prefer the larger more capable flashlights, my current EDC light is a 4-7's Quark CR123x2 with an 18650 body. Great light but the 18650 body fit an finish is poor which leads to a poor battery connection and a quite often a flickering light.

Before I carried a Preon 2. Great light but I wanted something brighter.

Fenix LD20, only carry it when I expect to be out past sunset- otherwise its just my knife, wallet, phone, etc. I use the recharchable AA eneloop batteries

I carry it in my left (weak hand) pocket on its clip, though sometimes I do wish I would have gotten the Fenix PD20 because a 2AA sized flashlight is a bit much for edc

^--- Agreed and own some of those :) .

Usually my Zebralight SC51w, Mac's SST-50 EDC, or Dereelight C2H/Javelin head (clipped to left pocket). With a coat I sometimes have my Dereelight DBS (or with a CL1H head to make it more slim).

With pants pocket lights I typically don't mess with more than 1 battery.

Surefire E2DL in the R side back pocket. It's never come loose and is comfortable. Just ordered a Quark 123x2 so I have something a little less pointy for air travel.

4Sevens Quark 123 in my pocket and a Preon ReVO on the keyring. For air travel, I only take the Preon. I've never been hassled over it.

i carry a streamlight pt1AA clipped to my pocket. it's perfect because the clip doesnt allow it to sit all the way in the pocket, so the pocket is still pretty much empty (if that makes sense).

I have a Surefire 6P that I wear to work, and when I change to my work clothes I have a 6P LED. On the weekend I carry a new Maglite XL50.

I have a Fenix PD31 clipped to my left rear pocket. It's about .950" diameter, so pretty close to your 1" light. At first, it was noticeably bigger than the PD30 that I used to carry there, but I do like the extra light and runtime afforded by the 18650 rechargeable battery.

I also carry an Olight T10 loose in my right front pocket. It's handy as a second light and stays set to dim as it's default setting. It is truly amazing for a single 123 light.

i carry a little LED Lenser p3, good little light , though i might get a fenix pd20 light, 150 lumens on high mode and by the looks of the pics, maybe roughly 8 cm long, 2cm wideish, so im sure that would be good

Novatac 85t in a Qarawol custom belt holster. I used to carry a Fenix 1xAA light in the OEM nylon sheath but went to the Novatac a couple years back.
