I think that somebody needs to make a nice 5-1/2" x 2" smatchet so I can EDC it here in Texas. Be really fun to whip that sucker out at a BBQ to use as my steak knife.

Bark River makes a Clax and a Forester--but the blades are about 10".

Yes I am a fan of packing the big blade! The Laredo Bowie by cold steel is a good one. I have packed a Kabar kukri blade in the past. Now I am full throttle on my new 13 and quarter inch custom reverse edge knife! ;) Guys once I get the hang of this uploading pics, I will share. :o

Oh the hissatsu knife by CRKT is a darn good knife. You can get a the live and trainer for a great price. They conceal extremely well and the designer happens to be an alright guy. Take care and God Bless! ;)

I some times carry my CRKT m16 sf, I think its a pretty hefty edc but still doable. My roommate routinely edc's his ka-bar bull dozier.

Due to legality reasons (and lack of need), I usually do not carry fixed blades, though I would if I had a good purpose for work or similar. I generally carry a 22" Ontario machete while hiking or going to clear brush - you can really feel the difference those 4" make compared to the standard GI issue. a pretty solid chopper.

I have a few bowie/"survival" type knives, 2 other (crappy - i broke the handles so I'm not sure what I will do with them) machetes, a cheap but very solid wakizashi and an interesting hand-forged knife that I can visualize a trapper carrying for edc in the late 19th century (the age is unknown but I think of it as the general purpose/SD blade of a trapper/furrier from long ago).
