Have they changed the gas pump nozzles where you live?

Have they changed the gas pump nozzles where you live?

Post by Jay_Ev »

Here in Southern California, it was deemed necessary to remove the "hold open" latch on gasoline pump nozzles. Apparently, it was determined that we were not intelligent enough to operate the nozzles as they were for the past 30+ years:

Usually use the gas cap though...

Some of the ones around here have been changed, some are still prop-able. I don't mind sticking something in there.

In N.J. it's illegal for drivers to pump their own gas. The gas station attendent MUST do it for you.

(And all because one idiot set himself on fire.)

There are a few stations in NYC that still have the latches.

Just curious . . . What happened in California? Did a stoner light up at the wrong time?

Woah this is all totally new to me. Here in Michigan they're all the prop-themselves-open-and-click-when-done kind.

We still have the nice hold open latches here in Ohio. Rarely do I see a pump without them.

Some pumps here don't have the latches anymore. However my Chevy gas cap is just the right size to jam in there, which I do all the time when they don't have latches.

We can't pump our own gas in Oregon, so I'll find out when I go home to Wisconsin this christmas.

I'd say the latches disappeared in this part of New York at least twenty years ago. Had assumed it was something the Feds dreamed up until I used some pumps that had them a couple years ago on my trip down to Atlanta.

We have pump like that for as long as I can remember.

Not allow to pump your own gas is just down right retarded, what's next?

I haven't seen a pump lock for ages - I think they banned them in the UK a long time ago for safety concerns - too many pumps failing to switch off etc. They are ultra paranoid about safety around petrol pumps here - you're not even allowed to use a mobile phone on a petrol station forecourt.

South Carolina pumps have them. If they are missing, a gas cap under the handle works nicely. We also can carry a knife and buy pretty decent fireworks any day of the tear. South Carolina does not require vapor recovery so just a few tons of vapor goes into the atmosphere each day.

As much as gasoline costs I'm not keen about putting it on the ground let alone the fire hazard.

The pumps in Charleston area don't have them. A few places had them when I moved here a year ago, but now I can't find any stations that have them.
