Who does their own?

Postby Ookami » Tue Jul 13, 2010 3:19 am

Their own knives of course. Well, now and then I makes me a knife :D
- just wanted to see if there are others here who do, too.

So 'fess up and show your work - remember: this thread will be useless w/o pics.

Here's mine:

This is not a very nice looking knife, it looks more like a spoon! :p

Nice knives - I especially like the first two.

I have made some of my own blades, but only from old HSS saw blades and a few regrinds of old blades (from knives with broken handles, etc.)

Sadly, I don't have the possibility of doing my own heat treatment and/or smithing.

No problem, you can buy a good quality steel, do stock-removal on it by filing and let the heattreat be done by pro's.
That's what I do.

For getting you blade heattreated in Germany, I can recommend Wolf Borger.

This is a nice thread. :)

Piet, really nice stuff!

WDZ, nice spyder hole. :)

Gull wing, that looks very functional. Also, usually the grind lines go the other way.

Donut, what you see are the hand sanding lines picked up by the sun. The grind lines do go the other way, but are now gone.

Now, that's what I'm talkin' about, lerman! Very nice - nice Wharncliffe lines.
