Hey guys, thanks for the kind words... And now, more countryside pictures in Samovision.. Just sit back and relax..

Image

I love fishing in the countryside..

Image

We pack our stuff and drive our trucks for hundreds of miles in search of a good fishing spot..

Image

And share campfire stories..

Image

Here are the flora and fauna stuff that we don't see in big cities like Kuala Lumpur.

Image

Its cool!

Image

A typical day in camp..

Image

Fishing on a bamboo raft..

Image

Not bad for a an hour's worth of work..

Image

This one goes back to where it came from..

Image

We get plenty of freshwater prawns too!

When I don't fish, I usually take my kidz out on a hike at the nearest trail..

When we are not taking our dogs out, I organise a small meet and greet with a small chapter of knife collectors in my country..

Image

Me, trying out a new Kershaw folder..

Image

The chapter's President Speedz (Also a forum member here), during a raffle draw..

Image

There's plenty of good food in our meet and greet sessions..

Image

And new knives..

Image

We picked the Spyderco Tenacious as our chapter's knife.. Pix courtesy of Chad Los Banos..

Image

Why Tencious? Well, its affordable and even a lowly paid salaryman in third world could own one..

Image

One of the highlights is beer and the good company that comes with it..

Image

We are a small group of edged tool enthusiasts in Malaysia..

Haha! Thanks for yer kind words brother.. I am truly humbled..

Image

Some years back, I worked with a small group of volunteers educating indigenous people, it turned out to be a fruitful venture.. Here's a shot of our vehicle entering their village, some 650km from where I reside..

Image

In the jungle, its humid and vegetation takes over very fast..

Image

Mrs Samo and Vincent, my brother in-law at work in the camp's kitchen..

Image

Setting the kitchen for dinner..

Image

Mrs Samo loves to take care of the camp especially when it comes to managing the campfire..

Image

In the jungle, life is carefree and the kids here grow up independantly..

Field dressing frogs are fun!

Image

It don't take much effort to process the amphibian..

Image

A simple folder can do the job...

Image

Its also easy to cook..

Image

From this..

Image

To this: Frog tempura..

Image

Which is finger-lickin' good!

Image

And also stir-fried frog with spring onions and ginger.. A source of protein and low-fat food..

Image

After a good dinner, the villagers decided to throw us a party..

Image

They put on special head garlands.. With some strange jungle herbs..

Image

That makes you feel good..

Image

Really good..

Image

The rest of the night was jungle boogie time...

Image

Well, too much jungle juice makes you happy..

After a night of partying, we had the next day off. We checked out the indigenous folk's and how they fared in a ginger-growing project..

Image

Mrs Samo documenting the growing plot..

Image

A young indigenous boy showing off his crop. These are organically grown and can fetch a decent price in the market. Proceeds are given back to to the village through a rural people assistance programme..

Image

The project site is one of the most beautiful places in my country..

Image

A scene from the campsite before we parted ways..

Image

A Kodak moment with Mrs Samo...

Image

Trekking to our designated drop zone..

Image

Mrs Samo is happy that she gets some jungle action..

Image

Posing with the people in our project site..

As I went back to view these pics, the more I can't help but notice how much everything looks so familiar, its like I'm looking at scenes right at my own back yard. Those nice, big river prawns are making me hungry too!

BTW, Mrs. Samo looks like a dead ringer to the "First Filipino Woman Forensic Pathologist" (like on the US TV series Bones) who's been in the news lately for a high-profile case

Squid season is just around the corner and I cant' wait to try out the Aqua Salt!

Me and my squid jiggin partner Nice Guy Eddie...

Image

The large ones come out late at night.. They give one helluva fight..

Image

Here's a beauty: triple hook-up by our boatman..

Image

For supper, we were served with grilled squid..

Image

All in a night's worth of work..

Image

And for all the hardwork, we reward ourselves with some fried calamaries..
