Help with bolt name

#1

Post by Ian UK »

Hi All

Firstly Seasons greetings to all!!! :)

I need to know what a type of bolt /fastener is called this would be the type that would normally fasten the techlok to a kydex sheath where one side is a cross head (countersunk) bolt but then goes into a threaded tube with a washer head, like a top hat shape.

I thought they were called barrel bolts but I cant find them any where any idea of their proper name?

Thanks.

Thanks Shike

Not quite, the female part looks like one of those rivets but its threaded through the middle, then a cross head screw (bolt not wood screww) goes into it like the Chicago screw at the bottom but a bit different.

Taking some photos now....

Hi All again

Heres some photos to try to make it clearer, these are of a kydex sheath that is rivited together and what I want is what is fastening the Techlock clip through the rivet..

Now onto my drawing skills as you can see this is threaded it is approx 3/16" diameter as the rivet hole is 1/4" and each needs to be button headed not countersunk

I need 12 of these about an inch long if anyone has any or knows where to get them plese let me know.

The name of them would be good so I can look for some myself.

Thanks in advance

If you don't get your answer here you might try on bladeforums. They have a whole subforum on sheath making and lots of folks who bend the kydex.
Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.

Ian these threaded aluminum studs normally come with teklocks and not separate.

1.85 dollar a set .10+ 1.49 with counterscrew and rubber ring; rather expensive.

You might check out local custom knifemakers or use flat headed parker screws from a local hardware store.

Ian, one alternative that might be worth investigating are what's called (at least in the US) Binder Post Screws. Commercial stationers would be the best place to look for them. The screws Ed mentioned are called "Chicago Screws" here an, he said, are used in bridles, reins, saddles, and other leather goods. Those tend to be brass, while the post screws are usually aluminum, but they might work as well.
