Seiko watches - School me
All this watch talk has gotten me interested, what can you tell me about Seiko watches? I really like the looks of the 007 cyberspyder posted.
http://spyderco.com/forums/showpost.php ... stcount=10
I'd like a nice solid, but not flashy something with day/date, and black non-metallic band, either a Maratac Nato/Zulu style nylon or plastic/rubber as on cyberspyders. Prefer black face and ring, not colored.

Is there a particular movement or mechanism to look for?
Load me up with info, thanks. (I think)

They make great watches. Better yet, they make watches that span a very wide price range. You can get a $100 Seiko, or you can get a $1000 Seiko. It all depends on what you want in a watch. I've been reading this watch forum for a few months. Its very informative.
Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

If you're looking for a solid tool watch, Seiko diver's watches are certainly the best bang for the buck
Each 7S26 and 7S36 movements are real good "engines", the main difference is that the 7S26 has no second hack mechanism.
You can also have a look on vintage models that can have a strange but interesting design.
My 2 cents :D
PS : If you don't like "stock" models, have a look over there : http://www.mkiiwatches.com

You could either go with a 007 or a restored 6309. Both are 'classic' in their looks and are very simplistic. Here's a (very) helpful link (you need registration though): http://www.usualsuspect.net/forums/show ... p?t=356457

I'd go w/ either the 7S26 or 6309... but I have two of the 6309's the one with pillow case(6309-7040) and the slimmed out case (6309-729a)... the pillow case looks more cooler, and has some history into it...

Okay, I think I have narrowed it down to either the 173 or a 007, J or K. Is there any reason to avoid the 173 and look for a 007 instead?
And am I correct that a Kinetic watch is basically the same as an Automatic watch, but it stores the energy in a capacitor instead of springs?

The Tissot looks real nice, but it is just not what I am looking for, thanks.

Kinetic watches are made with a quartz movement. You don't change the battery, since it's recharged by the movements of your wrist.Simple Man wrote: And am I correct that a Kinetic watch is basically the same as an Automatic watch, but it stores the energy in a capacitor instead of springs?
