dirks, daggers & stilettoes
Outside of the beloved bug, I have an affinity for dirks, daggers
and stiletto knives ( the latter in lockback form, but still illegal
for carry in many jurisdictions )
http://eknifeworks.com/webapp/eCommerce ... U=SCTDIRKS
I'm not sure about the Schrade dirk, however. Many cops would probably
just think of it as a fancy lockback. SMKW has'em in pearl handle as well,
I'll probably go for one of those.
Anyone else here collect these? Insofar as I know, no state in the union
has declared these contraband ( i.e. basic ownership is illegal )

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their minds, awake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it reality.

I have an affinity for push (t-handle) knives. Occasionally I wear a small single edged T-handle knife as a last-ditch self-defense tool; the legality of this tool would probably be vague so I do not take it out to do any cutting.
Interestingly, the WW1 trench knife was a dagger of sorts, and sometimes even took the form of a T-handle knife.
It is a shame that law abiding citizens are not trusted with these sorts of blades.

Have to say it depresses me to think the Taylor can come up with enough genuine stag to waste on that, while Sal can't seem to rustle up enough for a run of Kiwis.
As for the rest. Not much interest in dirks, at least not what I would define as dirks, since I prefer some form of guard between my hand and the blade. For daggers I like Boker's Applegate-Fairbains and the Randall's Letter Opener and Boot Knife. The later might also be considered a FB stiletto. For a folding stiletto, the style I love, and intend to own once I retire and flee NY for more hospitable climes, is exemplified by the Beltrame Classic Switchblade.

hmmm...
interesting topic, Alan. First of all, I've never heard of a dirk before, guess it looks like a dagger-type knife but a folder? :confused:
r.e. daggers, i have one in the form of the CRKT mini pentagon boot knife...and a stiletto has been on my list as a collectable but I have no idea what make or model as of yet... :spyder:

The real raider knives are getting expensive. Butch, you really have a good touch on the grinder. Your work seems to get better & more complicated as time goes by.
I know that's not 10V. What is that, CPM 154? Joe

To me "dirk" isn't something specific but just a Scottish knife. I've seen them both single and double edged. While stiletto implies a very specific thin bladed knife or dagger and a dagger is a short double edged weapon. Also normally I say:
dagger=short blade double edged
knife=short blade single edged
sword=long blade double edged
sabre=long blade single edged
Which is why I don't consider a katana a sword. It's more of a sabre but what it really is, is a katana, which is different from swords and sabres in some rather important ways.
