Got a CRKT M16-10K,any opinions?

The CRKT M16-10K caught my eye and looks great,so i got it.
To start,it comes with a AUS 8 combo edge tanto hollow ground blade,ti-nitride coated,in black.
the size is great and superlite with its 6061 aluminium handle, also black.
I love the fact that the knife is all black and has a tactical appeal to it.
its the smaller version of the original Carson M16.

I found the handles a bit narrow when holding an M-16. The flippers are kind of fun though.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

I have a few of the M-16 series, and my favorite ones are the M-16 FD models which sport Red G-10 handles. The only reason I don't carry them is because I don't like liner locks. If they came in a compression lock and didn't have the chisel grind, I'd like them a lot more.

I played with one at BLADE, the flippers are fun, but the handles are too thing for me, and the steel isn't current enough for me. Spyderco's been spoiling me :D

MANIXWORLD -

I think CRK&T produce some fine knives! One of my favorite is
my "edgie' ( designed by major Howard Pope ) -

http://crkt.com/edgie.html

The "edgie' has a built in sharpener! Josh @ knifezilla.com has'em for $15

But the M-16 series are suprelative -

I serve in the military, therfor i would also support CRKT,they do a good job.
The thin handles on these models CRKT,are to add to the compactness of these knives.
im really fond of them-very original design, the M16 series-KUDOS to Kit Carson.
I love the overall design.

My gripe with these knives are the edge geometry and the steel.

It just doesn't cut well at all.

Well, if you like the Carson Flipper, but don't want a CRKT, the Domino is planned to come out in '08.

I like the M16 series, my only gripe is the finish is rough/sharp on the flipper which scrapes my hand every time I draw the thing!

Some Pics Of My "Other" Knives

Post by OuchThatsSharp »

Along with all of my Natives and other Spyderco Models, I have some from other manufacturers as well. But those Natives are in a class all by themselves as far as I'm concerned. But anyways, since I had the others out too, I took some pics of them as well. (Just a side note, I didn't put these in the Spyderco Picture Gallery because the rules there state that it is for Spyderco Knives and products only).

The M16 series knives are well designed and the lawks lock is great for newbies that don't take really good care of their cutlery. The steel might be a little soft for me, but a lot of my shipmates would go knifeless without CRKT. If we get the Tenacious or Native at the Exchange/PX, that could change!

I had an M16-01 CF here for a while, ended up giving it away on this forum because it wasn't getting used.

Decent knives for the price, relatively sheeple friendly, big enough for most daily tasks.

Likely going to grab another one before too long.

I've had the M16-10KZ, which is the $20.00 one with polymer scales. To be quite honest, I wasn't impressed with the execution. The design, I think, is very good. I just wasn't impressed by the AUS-4 (yes, -4) and the general lack of durability. For what it's worth, I'm used to the Manix and various other Spydercos, so please, take it for it's worth.

However, I will say that you're much better off spending $20.00 on a Byrd as opposed to a $20.00 CRKT.

I have one of the CRKT military models aswell, olive drab alluminium handle-AUS 8 bladesteel-ti nitride coated.
I have to say that i like the coating cause it looks very scratch resistant.
In general these knives are good beater knives for me,where i have too much love for my Spydies to use them for more abusive cuttingchores, where my CRKT's can stand in for a beating, and they are not too expensive.
I do like the design on the M16's,maybe also cause im in the military.
I am fond of most tactical knives, for the rugged and tough look they have.

they call it flipper....

Post by AllenETreat »

How would a Carson flipper be as a back-up opening device on a new Spydie?

Imagine something along the line(s) of a Delica with the Carson flipper
to serve as both a fencing guard and a back-up or optional opening
device.

If anyone think's it's overkill, look at things like the cobra hood.

I'm in with everyone else as far as price. I got my edgie for $15. Very price
effective.

It would have to have a liner or compression lock, I'm thinking, since the Flipper won't work with a backlock. How about something like a Flipper'd Para?
