What music lyrics blow your mind?

#1

Post by AllenETreat »

For me it's Astro man by Jimi Hendrix -

Here I come to save the day

A little boy inside a dream just the other day
His mind fell out of his face and the wind blew it away
A hand came out from heaven and pinned a badge on his chest
It said get out there, man, and do your best

They call him astro man
And hes flyin higher than
That old faggot superman ever could

Oh, they call him cosmic nut
And hes twice as dense as donald duck
And he'll try his best to screw you up
The rest of your mind
Oh, look out! my guitars

Astro man, flyin across the sky two times higher
Than that old faggot superman ever, ever could
Ever could

There he goes, there he goes
Where he stops, no one knows
There he goes, there he goes
Hes tryin to, tryin to blow out the rest of your mind
Hes gonna blow out the rest of your mind
Talkin about lookin for peace of mind
Astro man will leave it in pieces
Have you put our trouble behind him
Make you fly around in pieces
Yeah, blow out the rest of your mind
Astro man will blow out the rest of your mind
He's gonna blow out the rest of your mind

What say the augurers?

AET :D
All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their minds, awake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it reality.

Clutch - Roch & Roll Outlaw

In the north they call us Rebels,
In the south they call us Yankees,
Because every other sucker's born to do the hokey pokey
With the skillet lickin' time keepers,
The grinning reapers
Of a missionary rock star.
You can rock it like Sir Sisyphus,
But even in it's genesis
It's really quite ridiculous,
'Lectric hobo, so now you know
Not to clock the Weeble Wobble hot rod gang,
Revelator big bang.
You can't hang with the heavinesses hung
Among the houses of the rising tongue.
No fun to crack the axle,
But it's got to be done
Beaus whenever you wobble the weebles
You know that they get ticked off.
And in the season of bol-weevil speaking evil in your ear,
And a pile of manure fertilizing all your fears,
We yabbadabbadoo all the way to Shangri-la.
Here it is with the rock and roll outlaw.
Where rock is criminal, criminals rock.
Where rock is criminal, they rock like this.
Where rock is criminal, criminals rock.
Where rock is criminal, they rock like this.
Hee haw, hee haw, hee haw, hee haw,
I'm a rock and roll outlaw.Where rock is criminal, criminals rock.
Where rock is criminal, they rock like this

For you anti-war hippies out there I've always been amazed by Roger Waters. From the Pink Floyd albums he commandered to his solo career.

"Amused to Death" is top of the chart. It juxtiposes religion and blind patrioism to offend zillions of people.

Great album cover to cover. What God Wants... is a recuring theme.

Sorry for the spelling, I am spelling challenged and lazy.

Please no one be offended. I am not wanting a flame war.

How about Louis Armstrong's "Mack the Knife".

Such a good happy sounding song. It's about a killer however.

--------------------------------------

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it … ah … out of sight.

Ya know when that shark bites, with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, though, wears old MacHeath, babe
So there’s nevah, nevah a trace of red.

Now on the sidewalk … uuh, huh … whoo … sunny mornin’ … uuh, huh
Lies a body just oozin' life … eeek!
And someone’s sneakin' ‘round the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?

A-there's a tugboat … huh, huh, huh … down by the river don’tcha know
Where a cement bag’s just a'droopin' on down
Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear
Five'll get ya ten old Macky’s back in town.

Now, d'ja hear ‘bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash
And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash?

Now … Jenny Diver … ho, ho … yeah … Sukey Tawdry
Ooh … Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky’s back in town.

Aah … I said Jenny Diver … whoa … Sukey Tawdry
Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky’s back in town …

Look out … old Macky is back!!

anything by J.G. "Foetus" Thirwell. he's a hellva wordsmith weaving all sorts of meaning from common collqialisms and other common turns of phrase. the qoute in my signature is from one of his songs (obviously).

these lyrics are from "Cirrosis of the Heart" a Getz and Gilberto-esque Bosa Nova romp. his music is everything from noisy rock/insutrial, groovy 60's spy music, surf rock, big band jazz, creshendo climaxing symphnonies and everything in between. about the only thing that ties it all together is an edgy false angry machismo that often verges on parody.

Cirrhosis of the Heart

cirrhosis of the heart
the horse before the cart
forclose before you start
to tear apart
and make those promises

no thematic posturing or supposing in the head
where do you get off implying that i should be in bed?

so set up another chaser
show me youre the real speed racer
what a difference a day could make
youve put yourself in danger
like an orphan power ranger
so youd best be good for goodness’ sake

doo doo doo doo doo doo

just relax now
the time has come to watch our backs now
dont deny it
never knock it til you try it
times-a-wastin
open wide and feel the tasting
....and enjoy....

still hungover
from the night of a thousand kisses
still mistaken
you keep callin close calls near misses
near forgotten
dim remembrance pains me greatly
always waitin
but the schedule plan must hate me

floatin gently,feelin lightheaded
prostate on the floor
stirring up selective amnesia
memories no more
every braincell seems to shortcircuit
spots before the eyes
payin interest on premature demise...

cirrhosis of the heart
will tear your soul apart
cirrhosis
of the heart
dont blow before you start

so set up another chaser
show me your the real speed racer
and its getting more and more absurd
youve put yourself in danger
like an orphan power ranger
worry seems to be the final word
"Always keep an edge on your knife son, because a good sharp edge is a man's best hedge against the vague uncertainties of life."

love it that somebody else mentioned clutch!!absolutely one of my favorite bands, and for the most part they are not houshold names. the thought that goes into the lyrics, and the references that are made to history, mythology, and world events blow my mind sometimes (have had to do research to understand some songs). particularly a fan of "promoter (of earthbound causes)" but i have never heard anything from clutch that i didn't love musically. now i'm on the subject- going to have to go to the website. http://www.pro-rock.com

Roger Water: The Tide is Turning, He is a great lyrist this is just one that
moves me.

I used to think the world was flat
Rarely threw my hat into the crowd
I felt I had used up my quota of yearning
Used to look in on the children at night
In the glow of their Donald Duck light
And frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning
But oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning
The tide is turning

Satellite buzzing through the endless night
Exclusive to moonshots and world little fights
Jesus Christ imagine what it must be earning
Who is the strongest, who is the best
Who holds the aces, the East or the West
This is the crap our children are learning
But oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning
The tide is turning
Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning

Now the satellite's confused
'Cos on Saturday night
The airwaves were full of compassion and light
And his silicon heart warmed
To the sight of a billion candles burning
Oo, oo, oo, the tide is turning
Oo, oo, oo, the tide is turning
the tide is turning Billy

I'm not saying that the battle is won
But on Saturday night all those kids in the sun
Wrested technology's sword from the hand of the War Lords
Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning
The tide is turning Sylvester

The tide is turning.

OMG, TANK! I'm proud to follow a post like that! Rog is the man! :D

I rarely have met other fans of his solo stuff online. We are few, and far between.

Mind-blowing lyrics? Lessee...

Rush:
"I have memory and awareness,
but I have no shape or form...
As a disembodied spirit,
I am dead, and yet unborn..."

"We can circle around like hurricanes,
dance and dream like lovers,
attack the day like birds of prey
or scavengers under cover..."

"We can walk our road together
if our goals are all the same.
We can run alone and free,
if we pursue a different aim.
Let the truth of Love be lighted;
let the love of Truth shine clear --
Sensibility, armed with Sense and Liberty,
with the Heart and Mind united in a single...
perfect...
sphere..."

Rage Against The Machine:
"Born with insight and a raised fist,
a witness to the slit wrist as we
move into '92 -- still in a room without a view
Ya got to know ya got to know
that when I say 'Go! Go! Go!"
amp-up and amplify, DEFY!
I'm a brother with a furious mind
Action must be taken -- we don't need the key, we'll break in!"
Now something must be done
about vengeance a badge and a gun
So I'll rip the mic, rip the stage, rip the system,
I was born to rage against 'em
fist in your face in the place and I'll drop the style clearly --
KNOW YOUR ENEMY!

Pink Floyd:
"Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
and deep beneath the rolling waves
in labyrinths of coral caves
the echo of a distant tide comes willowing across the sand
and everything is green and submarine..."

"The time is gone,
the song is over...
Thought I'd something more to say..."

Oooooh, nice thread...
All the mentioned are great!
I'll suggest Queensryche: "Operation Mindcrime", before Hannibal does. :D
The whole Album is just too cool. A perfect symbiosis of lyrics and music.
Also, Johnny Cash tells great stories in his songs, too numerous to recount all.
AND Depeche Mode has some good lines!

Queensryche: Spreading the Disease (from Operation:Mindcrime)

She always brings me what I need
Without I beg and sweat and bleed
When we're alone at night
Waiting for the call
She feeds my skin

Sixteen and on the run from home
Found a job in Times Square
Working Live S&M shows
Twenty-five bucks [a f**k]
And John's a happy man
She wipes the filth away
And it's back on the streets again

Spreading the disease
Everybody needs
But no one wants to see

Father William saved her from the streets
She drank the lifeblood from the saviour's feet
She's Sister Mary now, eyes as cold as ice
He takes her once a week

On the alter like a sacrifice

Spreading the disease
Everybody needs
But no one wants to see

Religion and sex are powerplays
Manipulate the people for the money they pay
Selling skin, selling God
The numbers look the same on their credit cards
Politicians say no to drugs
While we pay for wars in South America

[Saudi Arabia, on tour]

Fighting fire with empty words
While the banks get fat
And the poor stay poor
And the rich get rich
And the cops get paid
To look away
As the one percent rules America

Spreading the disease
Everybody needs
But no one wants to see
The way society
Keeps spreading the disease

To get Johnny Cash and Depeche Mode in one go, I'll just cite "Personal Jesus", a Depeche Mode Song that Johnny Cash covered on the "American IV" album and inimitably made his own. It's rare that a cover version reaches the original, most stay cheap copies, but Cash never failed to deliver in the "American" series. :)

Depeche Mode: "Personal Jesus"

Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who's there

Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer

Take second best

Put me to the test
Things on your chest
You need to confess
I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith
Your own personal Jesus

Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer
I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith
Your own personal Jesus
Reach out and touch faith

-Gone
Gone are the days

-Spent
Spent are the ways

troubles in time
take their toll on our sublime
ideals

-Wait
Wait for the light
-Stand
Stand up to the fight

when push comes to shove
will fear replace the love
inside

-Night
Night has arrived

-Dark
The Dark inside thrives

peace shines on one
while the other hides from the sun
to die

-Pain
Pain for the Child

-Tame
Tame what is wild

when innocence starts to rust
so then does the trust
we hold

Great thread! I've really enjoyed reading the above lyrics (and there's a couple songs I'm going to have to check out now.) Here's one from Bob Dylan I've really liked. It's called with God on Our Side and it came out not long after the Cuban missle crisis:

Oh my name it is nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
They tell it so well
The cavalries charged
The Indians fell
The cavalries charged
The Indians died
Oh the country was young
With God on its side.

Oh the Spanish-American
War had its day
And the Civil War too
Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
I's made to memorize
With guns in their hands
And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
It closed out its fate
The reason for fighting
I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
When God's on your side.

When the Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side.

I've learned to hate Russians
All through my whole life
If another war starts
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side.

But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
And you never ask questions
When God's on your side.

In a many dark hour
I've been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
You'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side.

So now as I'm leavin'
I'm weary as ****
The confusion I'm feelin'
Ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God's on our side
He'll stop the next war.

Another one of my all time favorite bands that I am sure no one here has ever heard of. Click me I am a link to this kick arse song!
ACID BATH - VENUS BLUE

Venus Blue

Creeping like frost
As slow as grave moss
Like drowning in dry oceans of bone dust
I taste the wreckage of crumbling faces
I know the pale thing in the darkest of places
I remember blood from the thighs of the mother
As everything is eaten by another
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
Slow desolation like a funeral procession
The lovely one screams like she's caught between stations
I eat the razor, a mouthful of God's flesh
Sweating this blackness,
I am shitting this cold death
I remember blood from the thighs of the mother
As everything is eaten by another
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
DEAD VENUS BLUE
Love is rotting on the vine
Crumbling in God's sunshine
I am dying all the time
Point me at the sky... sky
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
DEAD VENUS BLUE
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
DEAD VENUS BLUE
I taste the wreckage of crumbling faces
I know the pale thing in the darkest of places

"1916" by Motorhead

16 years old when I went to war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier

We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
The day not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names,
And that's how it is for a soldier.

We don't need no, education
We don't need no, thought controll
No dark sarcasim, in the classroom
Teacher leave those kids alone!
Let your opponent graze your skin and you smash into his flesh;
Let him smash into your flesh and you fracture his bones;
Let him fracture your bones and you take his life!

I've reached a level of sedation
don't feel so ugly anymore
couldn't handle the frustrations
why can't I live in my imagination?

There's times I hate myself
when I look in the mirror
see the monster staring back
the beast that I fear

You talk about your petty problems
you say you're depressed
I think you're such a bore
you know nothing about deep dark places
where pain hides
and sanity is at war

There's times I hate myself
when I look in the mirror
see the monster staring back
the beast that I fear
