Very nice PInk Floyd had the best lyrics!(i would still pay $1000 for a proper show)

"Aaaaaaaaaaahh, aaaaaaaahhhh
So ya
Thought ya
Might like to go to the show.
To feel the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow
I got some bad news for you, Sunshine.
Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel
And they sent us along as a surrogate band.
We're gonna find out where you fans really stand!
Are there any queers in the theatre tonight?
Get 'em up against the wall.
'Gainst the wall!
And that one in the spotlight,
he don't look right to me.
Get him up against the wall.
'Gainst the wall!
And that one looks Jewish, and that one's a coon!
Who let all this riffraff into the room?
There's one smoking a joint, and another with spots!
If I had my way I'd have all of ya shot."

"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on"

Elvis Costello always makes me smile;

that was as much of the alphabet she knew how to use"

For me it's a song entitled "Doddle Ley Do" back from the 30's

Please play for me that sweet melody
called Doddle ley Do, Doddle ley Do

I love it so, where ever I go its
Doddle ley do, Doddle ley de

Simplest thing there isn't much to it
you don't have to sing just doddle ley do it

I love it so, where ever I go it's doddle ley doodle ley do

2nd verse

Please do to me like you did to Marie on Saturday Night. Saturday Night
First you caressed her then you undressed her Saturday Night, Saturday Night
I don't look like much of a lover but
wait till I get you under the covers
Doddle ley Do, Doddle ley Do...That wonderful Doddle ley Do
I said Doooo.

Allen, I'm still blown away by the lyrics of The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America and the promise they hold.

As for rock lyrics however......

Aye an' a bit of Mackeral settler rack and ruin
ran it doon by the haim, 'ma place
well I slapped me and I slapped it doon in the side
and I cried, cried, cried.

The fear a fallen down taken never back the raize and then Craig Marion,
get out wi' ye Claymore out mi pocket a' ran doon, doon the middin stain
picking the fiery horde that was fallen around ma feet.
Never he cried, never shall it ye get me alive
ye rotten hound of the burnie crew. Well I snatched fer the blade O my
Claymore cut and thrust and I fell doon before him round his feet.

Aye! A roar he cried frae the bottom of his heart that I would nay fall
but as dead, dead as 'a can be by his feet; de ya ken?

...and the wind cried Mary

Waters at his finest! :D

The year is '94 and in my trunk is raw
In my rear view mirror is the mother ****** law
I got two choices yall pull over the car or
Bounce on the devil put the pedal to the floor
Now i ain't tryin to see no highway chase with jake
Plus i got a few dollars i can fight the case
So i...pull over to the side of the road
And i heard "Son do you know why i'm stoppin you for?"
Cause i'm young and i'm black and my hats real low
Do i look like a mind reader sir, i don't know
Am i under arrest or should i guess some mo?
"Well you was doin fifty five in a fifty four"
"Liscense and regestration and step out of the car"
"Are you carryin a weapon on you i know alot of you are"
I ain't steppin out of **** all my papers legit
"Do you mind if i look round the car a little bit?"
Well my glove compartment is locked so is the trunk and the back
And i know my rights so you gon' need a warrent for that
"Aren't you sharp as a tack are some type of lawyer or something?"
"Or somebody important or somethin?"
Nah i ain't pass the bar but i know a little bit
Enough that you won't illegally search my ****
"Well see how smart you are when the K-9's come"
I got 99 problems but a ***** ain't one

ROTFLMAO! You are quite correct on this count, as I am a big fan of Queensryche indeed.

However, for this thread I will take you back a few years during colder times with "Russians" by Sting - the clime of the time made it quite poetic.

The entire "Dream of the Blue Turtles" album was amazing. Also check out "Children's Crusade" on the same album.

I am a big fan of Sting's work - I have played bass for too many years not to be...

Hannibal

"Russians"

In Europe and America, theres a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy
There is no monopoly in common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent
To put the words in the mouth of the president
Theres no such thing as a winnable war
Its a lie that we dont believe anymore
Mr. Reagan says we will protect you
I dont subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me, and you
Is that the Russians love their children too

(If any of you are taking this as a political statement on my part, don't bother. I tend to be somewhat apolitical in my views. - H)

Hi Hannibal, Glad you reminded me of this. I haven't listened to this album in ages, but it's brilliant. Time to go try and dig it up!

She stares at the screen
At the little words of green
Tries to remember what to do next
There's a trace of frustration
That crosses her face
Searching for the key she should press
And I would help her If I only knew how
But these things are a mystery to me too

I like Pink Floyd too, and my brother loves Queensryche but the lyrics from these 2 Rush songs are some of my faves....

Closer To The Heart:

And the men who hold high places
Must be the ones who start
To mold a new reality
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
The blacksmith and the artist
Reflect it in their art
They forge their creativity
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
Philosophers and ploughmen
Each must know his part
To sow a new mentality
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
You can be the captain
I will draw the chart
Sailing into destiny
Closer to the heart

AND

Subdivisions:

Sprawling on the fringes of the city
In geometric order
An insulated border
In between the bright lights
And the far unlit unknown
Growing up it all seems so one-sided
Opinions all provided
The future pre-decided
Detached and subdivided
In the mass production zone
Nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone
[Chorus:]
(Subdivisions)
In the high school halls
In the shopping malls
Conform or be cast out
(Subdivisions)
In the basement bars
In the backs of cars
Be cool or be cast out
Any escape might help to smooth the unattractive truth
But the suburbs have no charms to soothe the restless dreams of
youth
Drawn like moths we drift into the city
The timeless old attraction
Cruising for the action
Lit up like a firefly
Just to feel the living night
Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet
nights...
[Chorus]

"things that are too stupid to say are sung" :p

doesnt matter who said it (bias)-- i generally agree with it. The music itself is transcendent.

Anyone remember these cats? -

Her neon mouth with the blinking soft smile
Is nothing but an electric sign
You could say she has an individual style
She's part of a colorful time

Super-sealed lady, chrome-color clothes
You wear 'cause you have no other
But I suppose no one knows
You're my plastic fantastic lover

Your rattlin' cough never shuts off
Is nothin' but a used machine
Your aluminum finish, slightly diminished
Is the best I ever have seen

Cosmetic baby plugged into me
And never ever find another
And I realize no one's wise
To my plastic fantastic lover

The electrical dust is starting to rust
Her trapezoid thermometer taste
All the red tape is mechanical rape
Of the TV program waste

Data control and IBM
Science is mankind's brother
But all I see is drainin' me
On my plastic fantastic lover

I particularly like Marty Balin's lead guitars / vocals on this one.

AET :D
All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their minds, awake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it reality.

Silly Dogface, Airplanes are for Wingnuts.... :p

Surrealistic Pillow is one of the all time greatest albums in rock and roll history. The lyrics to Plastic Fantastic Lover rank right up there with White Rabbit's for classic acid rock.

Another lyrics classic for Allen:
After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footprints dressed in red
And the wind whispers mary

A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterdays life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind it cries mary

The traffic lights they turn of blue tomorrow
And shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sails downstream
Cause the life that lived is is dead
And the wind screams mary

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past
And with this crutch its old age and its wisdom
It whispers no this will be the last
And the wind cries mary
Second reference to Hendrix's The Wind Cries Mary in this thread............
