Good news & Bad news from the specialist...

Good news, as far as bone placement goes, I'm fine

Bad news? Cartiledge from my ulna to metatarsils is shot, and the ligaments between the ulna and the other one are most likely torn... as far as he can tell between xrays and feeling...

2-3 months till I get in for an MRI to get confirmation(10-15% error rate with MRI but still the best there is), and treatment is decided from there... so far he's looking at 2 paths... stiffening the joint up so it doesn't click, pop and grind... or shaving bone off my ulna to allow more movement in the joint.

so it'll be about a year before I'm working again

funnnnn

gave me a new meaning to the expression of pain when he squeezed my wrist...

Whoa...Don't know what to say bro

Just pray for the best man. I KNOW this is "nothing" for ya, but I know that the "sitting around" part might make ya lose it! LOL! Just take care my friend, and know this is all for a reason...(So you can think up some kick @$$ knife designs!!!)

This is what happens when you push through pain until the body gives out... was hucking 400lbs no problem, september's injury knocked that down to 200lbs, and it slowly but steadily got worse.

Bending it hurts, picking up more than 15lbs hurts(I'm up to 15lbs hand weights after 3 months, worked up from the 5lbs), pressure hurts(learned quickly that my waterbed was a bad idea, need the left to push out of bed... sleep on the couch).

3 months... gone from picking up 5lbs in pain to either 30lbs to a shoulder height shelf or 40lbs carried at waist... also gone from a 32" waist and 170lbs to a 34" and 200lbs(back down to 195lbs now).

I lost it after my first month at home... insanity is the only way to make it through my day(at least until it's warm enough to jog again). And my meds don't even allow me to get drunk... allowed 3oz per 100lbs on it... 6oz of scotch is great for relaxing though.

High pain tolerance, and I got a new meaning to "pain" today... the doc was checking for movement while putting pressure on different areas... squeezed my wrist above the ulna, putting his thumb over the cartiledge... Took my breath away with that one. If he did it a 2nd time he could have been watching for my fist.
He spent about 20-30min poking, proding and moving my wrists(checked the right too since he felt the pop in it)... 6hrs since I got out of there and I'm still in pain. Just moving it now hurts like ****. Good thing I don't have physio tomorrow.(went monday/tuesday, go again friday this week).

What can I say ... hope it turns out well!
Just stay sharp, you'll find stuff to occupy your mind, if not your body.
This might be a good time to read all the books you didn't have time for, yet.

senate: doesn't help to have skinny wrists to start with...

in march I was moving a 300lbs(6'x250yards) roll at work, bear hugged it, gripped my left wrist and was pulling... got about 20feet and *pop* back to the elbow... bone out of place, popped it back in myself(hurt like a son of a b*tch)... and today showed that it's all in place at least

september we spent cutting insulation for a month straight... insulated blankets for the farmers. comes on 4'x160' rolls, about 40-50lbs but akward... 12' table so one person ends up on the table... up and down as often as you need a new roll(5-10 trips down to whatever length) over 8 hrs... hand flat on table, and push down as you jump up... twist, *pop & crunch*, pain, crumple... apparently this is where I did the most damage, the specialist called it the "rotator" joint... cartiledge and ligaments allowing the bones in your wrist to pivot.

Hi Pat - sorry to hear of your ordeal. I knew about your problems but was thinking you were on the track of recovery. Now, this sounds all very different and I feel for you.
Never the less, don't give up and feel free to share your frustration with us.
Are you still employed and is your employer helping you?
Best wishes from Holland!
Jurphaas. :)

my job is still there if I want it when this is all done, I'm not going back there but I can't quit and still be covered(and they can't fire employees on disability)... it's more or less in limbo. At least I have a 10-12 days worth of holiday time to cash in when I can quit.

I'm getting paid by the workers compensation board, just a little less than I was living on with my job[1350 after deductions(12% tax, insurance, wcb, UI, CPP), now getting 1300].

strength wise I'm working on recovery... it's just pain, stiffness and popping that are a problem. stiffness has gone up, popping has gone down, pain hasn't changed.

wasted an hour visiting at work today before coming home and online, everyone missed me after the first month. They all want me back. I'm out of manual labour though, looking now at either electrician or business admin training... business admin I can put to use and work in dad's office, take care of everything there. I won't be hucking 400lbs again, thats for sure, I'll be lucky to do 200lbs again after this is over.

Don't worry about not being able to lift the heavy weight. Hard physical labor is just a way to injure yourself badly and burn out much too young. I've seen people working physically hard jobs (loggers) get old much before their time. Don't look back - just pick something that will give you the best opportunities for the future (and something you'll enjoy too!!)

Didn't know what to expect today for pain after wednesday's 30min of abuse and pain... was still hurting last night. It's like it usually is after physio... stiff and sore, got home from physio 20min ago.

Bought a maddox on wednesday, after my mother and I go through it... well, it won't be looking good. She goes in for her wrist at the end of the month(from june 03's bike crash).

Went in to visit at work on wednesday.. the guy who replaced me did it for 10 weeks and is on light duty, shoulder and wrist. They pushed him and had him doing the same amount of work I was doing  ... How many employees do they have to go through before changing the work load?
