If you could, would you go back in time?

I always ponder the idea of going back in time. Especially appealing to me would be going back far enough to prevent me getting stage 4 Melanoma skin cancer. It would be nice to still have use of my left arm/hand & not have my career in the Army ended. Then I consider the impact that might have had. I might not of married my wife, thus missing out on the love of my life & 2 great sons. Or, since I would have still been in the Army, I might have deployed to the Middle East & been killed, or injured worse than what I deal with now.

It is what it is.

Yuck. I wonder how many people would want to go back in time to experience that...

I mentally try to go back in time, to the time when my parents did mail order stuff for Christmas. There was a level of trust, fill out the form, send in a check and surprise a package comes in the mail some number of weeks or months later.

I do this exercise pretending that the 15v BBB Mule I am waiting on is coming via mail order, I try to trust the postal system and Spyderco and relax. I have received emails with notices but I have not checked the tracking info, it is my own little back in time game.

Jim,

Interesting video, shows serious amounts of sheep like behavior.

But you know back in the good old days like the programed, I'll believe what I want to believe and confirmation bias types always regurgitate it was perfect and society needs to go back. :eye-roll

I actually saw one today that said the 1970's were perfect. :eye-roll

They were a child back then. ;)

People are delusional and ignorant really.

Jim

I've seen video shorts on YouTube of old Victorian-era photos of women, and some obviously male commenters saying things like, "Back when women were naturally beautiful."

Umm...OK. 🙄

I've gladly been hanging out with humans in this epoch and have decided to go back to the future. People here and now are too stupid to live with.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news ... ion-engine

I heard today that Italy in the recent past was trying to get a waiver for Lamborghini and Ferrari so that they can continue to be gas powered or e85 fuel vehicles in the EU. Where I come from 500+ years into the future, we still have gas and hydrogen cell powered cars. Lithium cars are no longer made because WW IV happened over rare Earth materials and lithium, making EVs impossible to manufacture.

BYE FOR NOW!

I would, I’d love to take a couple hundred grand back to 1955 through 1970 and buy enough brand new muscle cars to fill up a warehouse today!

I’m definitely a Chevy guy, I have a special love for Chevelle’s but the price of Fastback Mustangs and anything big block or Hemi Mopar is jaw dropping right now!

A building full of 1970 LS5 and LS6 Chevelle’s sounds pretty good to me! The list could be very long!

For anyone who thinks that the Victorian era was glamourous, watch this video. There is a good reason why I'm not embedding it, and am only providing the link. Ironically, at the end of the video, the narrator asks: "If given a chance, would you turn back time?"

Nostalgia is a dangerously hypnotic emotion, and particularly dangerous when abused by politicians. Some people can never escape its spell.

Jim

Jim,

I'm sure a lot of that has been fueled by fantasy images from period films. Compared to men, I haven't heard as many women fantasizing about going back into the past. But if they do, it's probably because of something like this:

Sense and Sensibility (1995 trailer)

https://youtu.be/2WGq2Rbs1Qg

Whereas, I'm betting that a good percentage of the men who yearn to go back in time to "the good old days," and "when men were men and women were women," imagine the people and the scenario looking something like this:

A Knight's Tale (2001 trailer)

Jim,

You are right, I don't hear many women talk about it either, except for the ones who are just as delusional and programmed as the men are. ;)

But they have no idea what it is they are asking for, because if they did they wouldn't be asking. :eye-roll

The delusions and programmed selective ignorance go hand in hand here.

No shade to anyone for that! And I totally get what you're saying, and I generally agree with your last point (although I tended to prefer them from the '70s, '80s, and partly into the '90s).

🙂

I was talking about the people who say that life today sucks, and if they could, they would go back to the past permanently, when life was all better.
