D Rocket Design MaximX Flipper!

Image

The scales are a red fiberglass high voltage electrical insulator material and the blade is VG10. I wish I knew more information about the scale material but it’s fairly unique. In a way it reminds me of old melamine resin kitchenware or some type of vintage urethane bowling ball. In short, it has a retro appearance that I’m a big fan of.

Overall first impressions are great though. It has good flipping action, feels solid in hand, and has a secure lockup. I’ll take more pictures in better lighting soon, I just wanted to get one up after unboxing it.

Reminds me a bit of those knives that Liquid Cobra was making and posting a while back!

Yeah I can sort of see the resemblance. Darriel Caston has a really eclectic and almost unconventional design style that I really love. As blasphemous as it sounds to the Spyderco fan in me, I can already see myself buying more knives from D Rocket Designs.

it's a shame the squarehead didn't stick around. it's actually great knife. that chisel grind is crazy sharp.

The other in my other pocket.

The new Schrade company released a few traditional knives that are made in the US. Quality is somewhere closer to Case than it is to GEC. I applaud Schrade for moving some production back home and supported their efforts with a purchase.

These are surprisingly difficult to find. There are some in stock at Red Hill Cutlery. This one is the Schrade Old Timer USA Generational Bruin Lockback. What a mouthful.

There are a few other places to get them that are a bit lower in price.
