The new chicks are big enough, so we let them out to forage around in the yard today. Border collies love nothing more than having a flock to watch over. It was a good day for all.

Wife's grandparents were of German decent. Ladybugs in their family are good luck. Apparently a German thing? I don't know.

I am half German descent myself and have no idea . I probably took twenty pictures to get this shot . The Ladybug was very active on a painted stone engraved with the word Patience ! I think it has meme potential for a good buddy , if you know what I mean . :zany Dan

I think it does too.
I've heard that Ladybugs are good luck from many people that aren't German. Maybe it's true, although I got a nasty pinch/bite from one, which some people don't believe can happen.

This is actually a Asian Lady Bug , it was brought in to eat Aphids . They look very similar to a Ladybug but can be Red or Orange with black dots with what looks like an M behind head . They do nip your skin out of curiosity and are toxic to predators so they have can have high density populations. When cold they group together for warmth and over time die off . I have found latterly hundreds in piles in my shed in the Spring to sweep out . This is a down year in their cycle thank goodness . Dan

Our neighbor buys them to eat Aphids. They are good at keeping them off the roses. I like them, but I like my Hawkbill Salt better.

Yes they are very good doing their job . We use a systemic drench on Roses and our trees to fight off Asian Beetles . We also treat the yard as well , no beetles means no moles . I like my Pacific Salt better too ! ;) Dan

What do you use to treat the yard for beetles? We had a mole explosion a couple years ago, but they are gone for now, knock wood.

We have yard treated to handle the grubs . Grubs can be very destructive to lawn creating dead spots . I have mole traps that work very well when a mole comes in occasionally. I trapped one last year before mole got too wild searching for food . Moles move above ground at night to burrow in fresh spots . Actually came from across the street.

The Fireflies have been out in full force around here the past couple weeks. It actually seems like I’m seeing more this year than the past few years, which is a good thing in my eyes!

That's really cool Dan! Pretty rare to have a pic that old. She looked like she was enjoying life.
