i've been on hikes where a filter would've made a huge difference in my enjoyment and safety. i have a sawyer filter, but it's hard to beat the grayl geo press for ease of use. i have one of those too. i always carry my geopress on day hikes now and save the sawyer for longer range trips with more people.

for home, we have a berkey filter. it works well, but you have to remember to refill it every night. it can take a while for it to filter.

It can depending on which one you have and how many filters you have in it.

More filters = Less time.
that's true. i forgot about the option to add more filters. with some planning, it's not that difficult to manage though and saves a bit of money.

Hardly anything.
I know that these machines exist, and that the smaller versions can be used at home or in an office.
There used to be a company called Ecoloblue, but i don't know if they are still in business.
Older online reviews seem to be a mixed bunch.

A few years ago on the USN forum there was a happy user who lived off-grid somewhere in the US, and he had 2 atmospheric water generators on solar power.
Can't find the thread anymore, but iirc he stated that his dogs preferred the water from the machine over bottled or tap water, and that his vegetables also did better on it.

Fairly recently a Dutch company popped up, so i sent them an e-mail and am currently waiting for a reply.

Interesting that this thread would pop up again. Because just yesterday I heard a radio show i.e. The John Moore Show i.e. www.thelibertyman.com << he had a guest who was talking about a water filter called the "Ready Pur". It seems like I had heard of the Ready Pur filters a few months back but I've yet to talk to anyone who owns one. I'm about due to buy a new set of filter cartridges for my "AQUARAIN" unit but now I'm being tempted to try one of these READY PUR units instead.

As far as the Berkey goes from what I've heard it's hard to go wrong with one of their products. The only complaint I've heard is that they are slow on delivery and slow on replacement parts. But I have heard that the Berkey units do a really good job overall.

ours shipped within three days of ordering and, iirc, arrived earlier than promised.

That's good to hear>> did you order yours straight from the company? Or did you order it from a dealer here in the USA?

I know a guy here in Missouri that was a factory dealer for the Berkey Units. He sold the Berkey water filters for a little over 7 years he told me. He also told me that once the COVID problem hit the USA he found it a constant problem to get stock and parts from the company. He hasn't sold the Berkey water filters for about 5 months now because of that problem. He said it took close to 3 months in some cases to get the units shipped to his store and several of his customers really got hot with him because of it. He now sells those "Ready Pur" filters I was speaking of.

Now last year when I got a new set of filters for my AQUARAIN water filter I had no trouble. Because the company is right here in the state of Missouri where I live>> and that probably helped I'm sure. But I've even heard of big Berkey dealers like Alex Jones ( infowars fame) and the "My Patriot Supply Co." also having problems keeping the Berkey products in stock. Usually those factories will go out of their way to supply their biggest dealers/distributors. That seems like a huge red flag to me.

The AQUARAIN Company puts out a fairly decent product however I've found that there are some other products out there now that do exceed their performance. I'm going to check out these "Ready Pur" units. I've now heard from 3 reputable sources that the Ready Pur company has moved the bar up in their standards. Water is going to be so important if we do end up having a SHTF situation. Which I think is a huge possibility in our present state of affairs.

For$40 I've been extremely pleased with my sawyer tap filter.

Rated for 200,000 gallons. I've had about ten friends and family do blind taste tests with tap water vs filtered tap water, and every single time they immediately know the difference.

I've ditched disposable bottles and have been edcing a half gallon jug and the sawyer in my backpack.

I've also been using it to keep 7 gallon aquatainers in my trunk filled up. so convenient having those in my trunk all the time. No more runs to the gas station in between skate sessions and disc golf rounds for more beverages.

I've got four or five of their mini squeeze filters too. I keep one in every hiking pack I own, and have an unopened back-up.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on a high end home system. Doing more research. But water filtered through the Sawyer and the Brita tastes pretty dang pure.

That looks pretty expensive, especially once you factor in the cost of a droid that understands the binary language of moisture vaporators.

well I tried calling them. tried contacting sales, customer support and simply asking for an agent. every option goes straight to voicemail.

strange business model to say the least. maybe next time im going through NC I'll stop by their HQ and see if I can find anything out.

Looks like interesting tech but companies that make you jump through hoops to give them money rub me the wrong eay.

i have a sawyer mini and a geopress. they're both great for different purposes. the grayl is wonderful for day hikes that might turn into more. the sawyer paired with a water bladder that can be rolled up is better for times when you'll be out longer and may have more time between water sources. you can also put the sawyer on a water bottle, which is nice.

the grayl is way easier to use though. it can be difficult to get water into a bladder or water bottle for the sawyer, especially if you want to pre-filter, which is recommended.

not sure if that helps or not. they both have strengths and weaknesses. the grayl's main weakness is bulk and weight (if you are concerned about ounces).

I've used a Sawyer Mini for a few years while backpacking but just recently upgraded to the Platypus Gravityworks 2 liter kit. The Sawyer worked well for the time I used it, never got sick after filtering water while out backpacking but the filtration rate was slow and I just wanted something a little more efficient.
