Aggat, welcome to the forum.

The Ladybug and Jester are both very small folders, more something you put on a keyring. They are just as small as a Swiss army knife. The differences between both are not very large, so you should pick the one with the bladeshape that is most useful for you.
If you want a little folder with some more cutting power I suggest you take a look at Spydercos like the Meerkat, Navigator, CoPilot, Cricket etc. They will cost you a bit more, but on the long term you'll have more profit of them. They are very good investments. You might even catch the Spyderflu.

Welcome,
Between the two, I like the Jester for a small keychain knife. It is a little easier to open with one hand and more comfortable in delicate cutting. The Ladybug is better if you need more of a point. It is also fun to have around because it looks like a miniature Delica. I think the only solution is to buy both. A lot of people try to get the various color variations that have been made over the years. Enjoy.

Aggat,
The Jester is fine choice. It's also available in three different handle materials: SS, FRN & Micarta while the Ladybug is only available in FRN.

Welcome to the SPyderco Forum. While the Ladybug is more eye apealing due to its resemblance to the Endura (in fact it IS a scaled down Endura), the Jester has better ergonomics, a larger opening hole and texturing on the spine. Not to mention it comes in a variety of flavors (FRN - various colors, Micarta, SS).
But tell you what. Get yourself a PE Ladybug from hamonoichiba.com. Trust me, a PE Ladybug is what you need <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
Another option to be considered for a tiny spydie, easy to carry on the keyring would be the Chinook <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I have both - plain edge FRN Jester and the combo edge Ladybug. I like plain edges better, but I prefer the Ladybug for blade shape and utility (sharper point and straighter cutting edge for a very small knife). The ultimate (for me, anyway) would be for a plain edge Ladybug to be regularly available in the U.S.

Another good debate!

The Ladybug I had my share of problems with when I first got my hand(s) on it in Remington in our mall here in New Haven ( it's since re-located to Milford & stopped sellin' <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s ; I don't patronize them as a result ) One of the things is that, I have long fingers & the hole's a little too small.

The choice of carbon fiber & PE models make's it diverse.

The Jester is either PE -or- SE no "middle
ground" ( like the CE Ladybug ) it was offered originally in micarta ( see webpage
for sale @ $29.95U.S.D.s ) an offering in carbon fiber would be nice, but, because of the high price of these models wouldn't find much of a marketplace.

I'm gettin' the PE Jester micarta in a few "daze".

Third choice : a KiWi ( SS is more cost effective, but if cost is no option, go all out and buy the bone handled model <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>)

The one I sent vampyrewolf I was MOST impressed with.

I still gonna get a CF SE Cricket <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

That clip is just TOO MUCH.

AET <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I've given away 2 of the 50/50 ladybugs... buddy kept using mine so he got one, and my mother kept using my knives to cut tags for the neice.

I have a green frn/se jester on my main keys(with a tritium glowring)... the stainless pe jester is on my spares, which ride in my jacket pocket, along with a leatherman micra.

The jester works better for my hands.

Depends on what you're looking for. The SS and micarta Jesters make nice dress knives. The Jester also has better ergos. But the Ladybug has a finer tip. If you're looking for delicate cutting,go Ladybug;if you want a small general use blade,go Jester.

LadyBug! I like the Jester just too thick in the handle. Take the jester Blade and apply the Lady Bug body.. That would make the Jester better.

Hi Aggat, Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

2004 brings some changes to the small line. FRN Ladybugs will be available in black or forrest green, fully serrated or plain edge.

The forrest green plain edge versions are already at Spyderco, as are the black fully serrated. Black plain are due soon.

The Jester will be available in black or forrest green as well as ss, fully serrated or plain edge. They are already at Spyderco.

I believe Kelly (Spyderco's Sales Manager) plans on making the knives available right away, if ordered.

The forrest green versions were created to be part of a knife/light set. They will go with an LED photon II (white bulb microlight) in the same forrest green with a "bug" label. 3 small keyrings join the knife and the light.

(sales pitch) When you are ready to "step up" IMO from the "current" small knife / small light sets available, Spyderco's knife / light combinations are IMO the best "small" combination. Small in size and weight, dark green (easy to find without being bright) Powerful small knife with very effective LED light. I never go anywhere without my "Spyderlite" combo. The key chains and light also provide purchase for the knife.

I find myself carrying the Jester more than the Ladybug because, for my hand, it is more ergonomic and the blade is more "robust" than the Ladybug.

However, for taking out splinters and he "like", the very fine polint on the Ladybug is hard to beat.

I cut free hanging 1/2" diameter hemp rope with either the Ladybug or the Jester. (don't try that at home, It can be a dangerous cut).

In the end, "the most important part about the knife or the light is that you have it with you when you need it". that's why we made such a small easily carried package.

My response was the same when I saw them in my dealer's catalogue. I also drooled over pics of the paramilie and the folding ronin. The heck with presents for Christmas, I just need the cash to pay for "upcoming" expenses!
