Clip Screw Size ?...

#1

Post by deputy tom »

I went to my buddy the gunsmith to have him drill & tap my newly aquired G-10 Civilian but he didn't have the correct size tap.Anyone know the proper size to re-use the original screws?I think he said a 356 fine thread.Thanks.tom.

From the lack of "official" answers to similar questions from myself and others regarding clip screws for other models, I've come to the conclusion that the size and thread pattern may vary from batch to batch within a model as well as from model to model. IMHO, the easiest and safest solution would be to purchase three screws of a diameter suitable for the clip in a size and pitch your buddy has a tap for.

Tom, don't hold me to this but, I am fairly sure a 2-56 SA tap will work ok on your Civvie.
I just measured the clip screws in mine and that size worked fine, I got .0098 measured to the outside diamater of the threads, that size tap cuts threads .0003 smaller, same pitch.
Better smaller than larger. Ron
