OT: How do you carry your equipment....?

#1

Post by travis quaas »

I know that you only have so many pockets. But, it seems that I'm having to carry my equipment in a pack of sorts...Here is a list of all the packs I use, depending on what I need to carry...could use some suggestions on the best pack you have found. I mean, I'm carrying GPS, TI Calculator, Leather Organizer, PDA, Pens, Change, Post-it pads, (of course) extra knives (3 or 4) Etc., Etc., Etc. Still haven't found the perfect bag. Thanks.

Mountain Smith Tour Pack

Mountain Smith Day Pack

REI Talus

Gregory Palisade

Eddie Baur Brief Case Bag

North Face Yavapai

Believe me when I say, that I have 5-6 more than these!! Am I the only one with this problem?

TQ

I don't carry enough to need a pack.I like to go with as little as I can. Most days the total that I have on me is
Knife ussally Military
Lighter
PST ll Leatherman.on belt
Wallet
change

I would like to find a small back pack with a single compartment and maybe a couple pockets to carry to gun and knife shows.

I carry my stuff in a Lowe Alpine PAX 10 litre back pack. It's a small backpack, but nicely curved and padded, with good straps, and a special Aircooled Back system.
I used to just throw my stuff ( GPS/knives/tools/flashlight/sunglasses/wallet/PSK) in there, but yesterday I got my MAXPEDITION M4 pack to organize things a bit more.

I use to be a bagaholic. About four years ago, I bought a Brainbag from Tom Bihn.

Since then I haven't needed another bag. I use it for day hikes, take it to work everyday and it just keeps going. It has been to Europe twice and Alaska once.

I always wear "Carpenter" jeans, you know, the ones with a pocket on the side of the right leg. That pocket is perfect for my pen. Not really usefull for anything else. I also carry:
Gerber multi-pliers-thingy, spyderedge merlin, Benchmade model 42, and a wallet with too much empty space in it.

don't really need a pack when i'm in town because everything lives in my truck. when i'm not ner the truck i have a jansport equinox 33 pack. for pants i've wear a pair of propper black BDU's. i love cargo pants. and with those i've got change, leatherman(on belt) cold steel 2x voyager, zippo, wallet, pride with a swedish flag(used as a money clip), couple of pens, and my phone.

I use a shoulder carry bag that was really designed for carrying a laptop computer as my pack, it carries all my "work related junk" (spare pen, mechanical pencil and spare leads, hiliters, laser pointer, couple of blank 3.5" floppies, calculator, notepad, and office papers when needed) as well as a couple small screwdrivers, stamps, a few envelopes, comb, checkbook, SpyderCard, Rizla roll box, tobacco, rolling papers, spare lighter, spare glasses, reading material, and, occasionally, my lunch. When there is a threat of rain, I have a compact umbrella that slips neatly into two loops on the outside of it. It carries the very American name of Tech Organizer, but, considering where I bought it (in a NYC dollar store) and what I paid for it ($15), it was probably made by nine year old kids earning two cents an hour in some third world sweatshop. It has, however, stood up amazingly well. Aside from the "tactial black" finish having worn off on most of the hardware, it still looks pretty much like new after nearly four years of daily carry to the office. On a different note, if anyone had told me thirty years ago that some day I would be carrying a pocketbook, I would have either laughed in their face, or beat 'em to a bloody pulp, depending on my mood at the time.

It's not a "pocketbook," it's a "murse." <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
