NY City Knife Show

#1

Post by Jimd »

I went to the New York City Knife Show today. Many of the big names were there, including Bud Nealy, Alan Eleshewitz, The Spyderco Bunch (including Eric Glesser) with a nice display, Mike Irie, and the Strider Guys.

I spoke with Mick Strider for quite a while, great guy. The whole Strider team is great, as is the Spyderco team. Every maker at the show was very polite and eager to let us check out their wares.

Actually, the show was smaller than I thought it would be. Since it was Sunday, some of the makers had already headed home, having sold out on the first two days of the show.

I was there on Saturday. I am glad they had a glass cover over the blades or I would have drooled over all of them! I actually had Sal sign me a copy of the Spyderco book and handled some of the new prototypes. A great visit. I’ll be there next year with more money…

I got to stop in on Saturday (just briefly, since I was working, shhhh! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> ) but long enough to be insulted by some attorney standing at the Spydie table. Oh well...

I did get to see Sal and Eric, plus what I've really been thinking about since last year's show, the Paramilitary. I'm still not sure. It's definitely nice, but will it replace my edc Militaries?

-Guess I'm gonna'have to buy one and find out!

This was a good show. Thanks Sal, Eric for coming. Jeff Silman for always being the good Spydie rep. I like the Laci Szabo version of the Spyder Fly, wasn't feeling the ParaMilitary, the other protos were good to go.
Sal your GOOD TO GO in my book ,always explaining the reason behind each design.

I too was at the knife show the other week (or two) and I wanted to thank the Spyderco crew. I've been a Spyderco fan for a few years now and the men behind the Spyderco table gave me another reason to continue being a fan. Everybody was extremely friendly, eager to answer all my questions, and I didn't get the impression that I was being fed a bunch of lines with the hope that I'd purchase something. Instead, it seemed like the Spyderco crew just really liked their knives and wanted to share their enjoyment with everyone. Sal himself handed me many a knife to play with and he explained characteristics of the knives that I had never noticed and never would have thought of.

Previous to this show I had only handled a few of the Spyderco models and it was a pleasure to actually get to see and handle the knives that I've been looking at online for so long. It was also very apparent that Spyderco doesn't just care about their knives but they care about their customers as well.

So, thank you very much Spyderco. You made my day enjoyable and more importantly you gave me a reason to buy another Spyderco knife!

By the way, I also bought a Sharpmaker. I've been sharpening everything I can find but sadly I'm running out of tools with blades! This is a great product.

Ok I'm jealous. Sounds like a good time. There doesn't seem to be any good KNIFE shows in the upper midwest. What's with that? Glad you had a good time.
