Post by Carlos »

Here it is at last, the Spyderco SpyderFly.

Features include:

* 4.24" VG-10 blade

* cast stainless steel handles

* spring-loaded latch (holds knife closed, but not open)

"...large holes at the butt of the handles can be used for very effective drop openings and closings."

Interesting. Does the latch lock it in the open position? Or is the only thing that keeps the handles together in the open position hand pressure? Thanks.

It doesn't lock in the open position (according to BFC), it has to do with laws and the ability to sell it in Golden, CO.

More info here (multiple pages) <A HREF="http://www.balisongcollector.com/spyder ... g1.html</A>

i can't wait-hopefully, the smaller one won't cause any legality issues-i usually prefer not to carry anything that i might get hassled for. i guess i could just put a sheath on my forehead. so much for concealment then, eh?

I really want a Spyderfly.

But I live in California so any butterfly knife over 2" in blade length is illegal.

Is there a possibility that maybe Spyderco will produce and release a Spyderfly with a 1 and 15/16" blade? Give it a 3" handle and it'll be all set for flipping.

I can hope <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I have one question: WHEN IS IT COMING OUT FOR SALE???? If the price is anywhere around $100, I might buy two; One for practicing, and one for carry. I am a complere Balisong ADDICT, and the spyderfly has to be the most evil, gnarly looking balis I have ever seen.

Now that's a cool concept there, Home-Dragon! I think you just invented the Spyderskeeter!

Whatever size, I hope there will be a drone for us Bali-challenged beginners. I can see it now - steel a twirlin and a flashin and finger pieces a flyin out from the misty red cloud enveloping java as he tries his first Bali-dance. Oooops....

Stay safe! Stay sharp!

Hehehe, java...

I haven't been called "Home-anything" since I moved out of the city about 14 years ago.

Speaking of a drone or trainer version of the Spyderfly...I wonder if that would be legal for sale in California since, technically, the knife wouldn't be a stabbing implement.

California knife laws are better, but not excellent, at defining the aspects of a legal or illegal knife. Apparently, a lot of the wording in the law refers to "stabbing" implements. So technically, a sharp pencil/pen or a pointy chopstick could be considered illegal to carry around here, concealed.

But a drone or trainer knife is usually blunted all around and has a rounded off tip so as to not cause any accidental stabbings or slashings.

If it is legal to own a drone/trainer version of the Spyderfly, then that would be sweet! I can definitely hope.
