liner delete delica scales...?

#1

Post by ladybug93 »

basically, i want to be able to add a wise men signet ring to a salt 2 wharncliffe, but they aren't compatible because of how the salt handles are manufactured. that means i need handle scales that don't require liners to put the blade, lock, spring, and signet ring into.

anyone have any ideas where i could find scales like this, or any other way of doing it besides buying a second delica to use for parts?

I’ve swapped a Salt2 H-1 blade onto a delica body. I’ve also added the signet ring to several knives. You want delica scales that have a liner delete and the removable backspacer. I don’t think that has ever been made. I believe your only option is to buy a delica and swap the blades. In the end, however, you’ll have two knives. I buy two knives all the time to make my perfect modified knife. The left over knife makes a great surprise gift for a friend.

Lynch Northwest makes (or made) Lynch Mod 2 Delica scales (and a backspacer) all in titanium. There are no liners. The shape of the handle changes too. no idea if your wisemen ring backspacer will fit.

Normal Delicas have liners. Maybe I am reading it wrong, but your post suggests otherwise?

You'll be losing some of the salt advantages by putting an Lc200n blade in a delica handle. You won't have enough fasteners (barrels and screws) from the salt knife to just use those. You'll have to use some Delica fasteners.

IMHO, You are better off putting the signet ring on a VG-10 Delica wharncliffe and leaving the salt knife alone.

i'm not a fan of the lynch scales and they aren't compatible with the signet ring anyway, but thanks for the recommendation.

i know the delica has liners. the salt doesn't, so i'd need scales that don't need liners and have a backspacer to put a salt blade into.

i'd be losing a lot of advantages of the salt because of the liners, but also because i'd be putting some kind of wave attachment, which might cause corrosion from being paired with lc200n as well.

you're probably right about just getting vg10, but i've had it rust on me before and i was hoping for something i could carry iwb. if vg10 is going to rust, i might as well carry k390, but they haven't been in stock for a bit. i may just got with vg10 anyway since it's cheaper, readily available, and this would be a knife i carry as a backup instead of a constant user.

is 20cv more stainless than VG-10 in your use? There's a knifejoy exclusive 20cv wharncliffe Delica.

i don't have any 20cv, but i have m390 and 204p (although that's a coated blade) and they've been fine. i don't carry either iwb though, so it's hard to know for sure. i have considered the kj wharnie though, and the s30v version that's also still available. i really like that blue on the knife exclusive, but i'll probably change the scales too, so i'm not sure that matters. i guess having this many choices is a good problem to have. i just wish the salts had normal backspacers.

i just saw that you can buy a full delica hardware kit from knivesplus. i wonder if i could get a the lc200n salt 2 wharncliffe and the hardware kit and put them in some titanium scales from flytanium with the signet ring backspacer. the only problem that i can think of would be extra space around the pivot with pugh the liners present. maybe some extra washers...?

i know they are milled for liners, but i was thinking they might work without them as long as you have the other hardware.

Are you wanting to get rid of the liners because you think they'll rust?

If so, have you considered having the liners coated? Cerakoted or blued or something?

no. the salt doesn't have liners, so i'm trying to figure out a way to get a salt blade into scales that will accept the signet ring. the backspacer on the salt is molded into the scales and it has threaded inserts to accept the screws. so, i need some liner delete scales that will take a backspacer if i want to make this work. this is probably more trouble than it's worth. i just wish the salts were compatible with aftermarket upgrades.

Yeah, I understand the issue. You're fixated on having scales with no liners to fit a signet ring which is made to fit scales with liners.

So realistically, what you want doesn't exist.

The salt blade and lockbar will fit into normal Delica scales WITH the liners. Then, if you're worried about the liners rusting, you can have those cerakoted. You can have any uncoated screws cerakoted too. It won't be "cheap", but you can actually get there if you want to, but not with linerless scales.

Or maybe you could design and have made a signet ring which uses the unused side clip screw holes as its attachment point.

wise men company (that makes the signet ring) used to make scales with no liners. from what i understand, the ti and damascus delica doesn't have scales. there are scales out there, so i wondering if anyone knew of others. i'm not really fixated. it would just be nice to upgrade a salt without buying a second delica.

The wisemen ring won't fit the Spyderco Ti Delica scales either. There's a different number of screws.

I have seen the wisemen scales for sale every once in awhile. I did not realize they were linerless. I never looked at them that closely as honestly I found them unattractive. If you want a set of those, you should probably post a WTB in a half dozen or so facebook knife groups.
