What are skinny scale and mods?

#1

Post by jmj3esq »

I'm looking for some new scales for my PM3 and all I seem to find are "skinny scales". I'm relatively new here and don't know all the lingo yet. What is a "skinny scale" and what is a "skinny scale mod"? Does my regular PM3 need modified to accept these scales? Please help a brother out.

The 'skinny' mod is the elimination of the 'bump in the middle of the handle. So a more streamlined grip, that some like.

I am not a PM 2 or Para 3 kind of guy, and have not done this swap, but I believe that the knife liners are far enough back from the edge, that no modding of the nested liner is necessary. You'll be able to quickly tell when looking at your knife, and a picture of the 'skinny' scales.

Yep, just slimmed down versions of the original.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

i hate the way they look, personally. they make no difference in the pocket, where the knife spends most of its time, and it only makes it less hand-filling. i don't know why anyone would want that unless they just had really small hands.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Probably great if you have small hands or your fingers don't fit the grooves on a knife since they eliminate the grooves. Personally I don't like how they make the handle less hand filling so it's not for me. I tend to like palm swell designs anyway.

Skinny scales are the ones that eliminate the masterpiece part of the phrase "ergonomic masterpiece." Look around, and you'll find plenty of cool scales that aren't skinny. Check out RockScales and Flytanium, for example.
