You just put in some input either a picture or a description and let the program go wild. Here is a PM2 with some AI

yeah, those ones are pretty bad. :grin-squint

I’ve played around with AI generators creating knife designs and they just didn’t feel intuitive enough to produce anything that was worthwhile. I did manage to get a few designs that could be adjusted into something usable but they’re were not so extraordinary that I would want to use it regularly. I’d still prefer to just design the knives myself.

It's funny you should bring up AI. Immediately before looking at the Forums just now, I was over at ChatGBT. I had asked it about the origin of the 82 degree countersink angle that was mentioned earlier today in another thread. GBT's answer was interesting at first, covering a bunch of information regarding countersinks. But at the end of the page I realized that the AI didn't even address the question.

So just now I went and asked ChatGBT to draw me Spyderco design. Apparently it can't draw, which is fine, but it preceded to tell me a bunch of Spyderco qualities in generalities, and again, never attempted to narrow it down and answer the question. See the pic below.

While I'm entertained by the way the AI can yammer on about any number of subjects, at this time it won't be able to replace Google, Bing, and Duck, Duck, Go.

I don't see how AI is going to overthrow humanity when it has such a poor grasp on ergonomics (pun intended).

That's the thing about AI though...the more mistakes it learns from, the better will it be at mimicking human thought and consciousness. And like viruses, AI learns at an alarmingly exponential rate. What we may laughably think as mistakes now, tomorrow it will be just part of the evolution of machine thinking. Not to sound like a tinfoil-hat wearing alarmist here, but I am always wary of any advancement made by AI each new day.

Oh we are definitely screwed, tin foil hats or not. The Terminator is a documentary. Skynet is coming for us. Might not be our future but I do believe it'll happen. Besides I heard it from Elon and he knows everything lol.

OK, coy boy, which one are you using?

PS: I like how the AI puts bolts and rivets in the blade. It must know something we don't.

If we spent as much time trying as we do doubting, we might have already accomplished it.

I was using DALL E 2 with only one picture and. I other inputs so it’s not surprising that there are some “interesting” results. If I were to give it prompts, it would obviously be better.

I agree with David, very poor grasp on ergonomics and mechanics. Just by saying that I made the red list, which is actually 2 steps under a blacklist so I still have time to stuff my military grade rucksack full of useless crap that'll wear me down and likely get caught up on all kindsa crap in the woods on my way to a secure location that I never fully invested my time or resources in to develop property and thrive in. From 3G+ to SOS in no time!
