(Where did they claim they don’t know? I’ve only seen the opposite.)

Sounds like my earlier report. I called BHQ and asked; the rep I got said "I'd check if we had them in stock but we don't have them yet, and we won't know if they're pinned or screwed until they get here." And then: "Why don't you contact Spyderco, they'd know."

But then, as you say, on BHQ's Instagram it's definitive: "Pinned." It's difficult to imagine that one display model would be made, pinned, for the photos; and the rest of the run be screw construction. Is that possible?

An idea: One of you could contact Spyderco and ask the same question that I did; see if we get the same answer x2.

BladeHQ already has them physically in hand and those are their pictures and they're pinned, so I'd say it's 99.999% pinned. CS (from any company) are often clueless and these models were "set in stone" probably one or two or three years ago, I'd doubt they'd change the manufacturing pipeline. Unless the CS agent that responds to emails is some high level person, then that'd be confusing.

How did you come by the above knowledge? Do you also know release date?

(Agree re: the customer service agents not necessarily being in the know.)

Right, ^ that's the same quote I posted on the previous page of this thread. What's curious is that an email from Spyderco contradicts it.

your quote from spyderco sounds like it came from a person that knows they are all being made with screws now, but doesn't necessarily know when these were made.

my 15v manix was made in january of 2022, but i didn't get it until december. these were probably made a little while ago. as you're aware, the screw construction is still newish.

It's possible. Though they do specify: "The Blade HQ Manix will be screw construction as well." The reason I didn't include the employee's name at the end of the message is because I had the same doubt in my mind, and didn't want to "name names" on the forum.

I'm not advocating the mint greens are screwed construction. I would be surprised if they are. I'm just passing along an email response from Spyderco, and your scenario of made months ago sounds probable to me.

It's kind of funny; whether screwed or pinned is of big interest to me and several of you and to some potential buyers on Instagram; but look how far down the priority list it is for the sellers--clearly, some of them don't know left from right. I guess that's the difference between (potential) buyers and sellers -- buyers can be considerably more interested in the details for whatever they're forking over the cash.

I'll be kicking myself if I pass on M4 because it's pinned, and it turns out to be screwed. Then it will be *me* who is screwed.

I think it should be considered there are two standard variations that are screwed at this time . Since the M4 is an exclusive it is reasonable to think there is a possibility of a screw construction instead of a pinned variant. I think main driver is how many standard variants are still available on dealer shelves. Another example would be the slow release of Pacific Salts in H2 . Just my thoughts, MG2

I will grab one, I don’t own a LW or spyderco M4, and the price is irresistible.

Has anyone dyed a (pinned) Manix 2 LW?

Obviously one can't do this with just the scales (no disassembly), what would the dyeing process do to the CBBL mechanism, if anything? :thinking

(I generally have no experience with dyeing scales, but that mint green should easily get turned into a dark green or blue...)

[off topic: Not an English native speaker here: is it "dyeing" or "dying" (which then would also mean "passing away", right?]
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I only recall kennethsime doing it, but there could be others.

I was always bored with the grey FRCP on my Maxamet Manix 2. Last night I mixed two parts Peacock Green to one part Daffodil Yellow Rit Dyemore for Synthetics and came up with this lovely “REI Green” color.

I wanted more of an Olive green, but I can’t say that I’m unhappy with this color.

The Manix has never been my favorite knife, but it sure is a great little work knife. Now that it’s a little more mine, we’ll see if it gets some more pocket time.

Also, though English is not my first language, I believe the correct spelling is dyeing.

For “color” it’s dye, dyeing, dyed.
For “death” it’s die, dying, died.

Thanks, guys, what a nice "side effect" of this forum when people help me / others also in learning proper English!! :smlling-eyes
Also, mikey, thanks for the quote to the dyed (now I know how to spell it right... ;) ) Manix 2 LW

Few months later and no problems whatsoever.

Fwiw, my dying process was pretty simple. I mixed hot water with the rit dyremore synthetic dye in a 1-liter jar and dunked the knife for a few minutes. Some people add vinegar and boil the dye, which I think is more important for g-10. I imagine that would be much less kind to the blade And any other internal metal parts like the CBBL mechanism.

I’ve also since learned that you can remove the blade fairly easily, and would probably do that next time.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I noticed on the BHQ Insta page, that the store is sorta "defending" the rivets/pins, saying that they need love too. I doubt they'd go to that effort if they weren't riveted/pinned. So I'm not expecting screw construction, regardless what a Spyderco rep told me.

I've got the S110v Manix LW. I prefer the Para3 LW, like the ergos a little better. Good to have one Manix though, it's an interesting light weight design. The construction is so light, that the rivets are just a reminder of what it is, a convenient blade.
