Thinking about picking one of these up. Never had a lw manix and I’m not a drooler for drop shut… but how’s the action on these knives?

One thing with the Manix 2 lightweight: There seems to be more variation concerning the action than with other models (and also with the G10 Manix). From completely free falling to rather sticly.

I got that Impression from what I read here, but also the three Manix LWs I had/have myself .Out of the box one completely "drop shutty", one decent and one rather sticky (which I don't mind actually)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

If a DLC blade version of this comes out I will buy it. The pinned construction is the only thing holding me back from this great deal at $116. Im in SW Florida and stuff rusts looking at it. If I cant open it up to clean it, I dont like. I posted pics of my Rex45 G10 model with rust inside. If a DLC version follows Im thinking cost would be $136? I will buy.

I bought a Spy27 pinned from a reputable dealer at a discount, gifted it to bro n law. Bought another for my self from same dealer. I also have the knife joker exclusive. All these LW's were "drop shut" or can be by a fine adjustment of the pivot.

The front of these handles were lined-up with a straight edge, prior to snapping this picture. Back about a week ago now.
:bug-red-white

Part of my current rotation.

I always have one folder and one fixed blade on me, and currently this Enuff 2 is getting seven days a week carry. Completely covering the fixed blade carry chores!
:cheap-sunglasses

I dyed the K390 blue scales, a dark maroon color.

Darn it Wart, I was all set to derail this thread with a pack of lies about already owning the MagnaManix! Why you got to be so honest?

Agreed. For me personally much prettier than the mint.

Hey thanks. I’m happy with how it came out particularly since it was my first dye attempt. Sort of an REI shade of green. Worlds better to me than the mint.

Congrats. I was equally pleased with the outcome of my first dye job. Great knife.

Just got done a screw conversion using 2-56 heat set inserts. Still need some more black screws but at least it's back in action.

Looks really good. Where do you obtain heat set inserts that small? Thx.

Thanks. They're sold at several places like McMaster, Ebay, and Amazon. They're all the same 2-56 insert, I just sanded the one down to fit. Probably not the best way to do it but I don't feel confident enlarging the hole. If your not dead on it drilling it the lockup won't be right.

I may have misunderstood "heat set inserts," I had the idea you pushed them into place hot, or got them started, then pushed them in with a soldering iron or something, so they sort of melted into place. But it sounds like you didn't heat?

Yeah, from the screw conversions I've seen, what makes me max uncomfortable is enlarging the holes. I saw one guy enlarge the hole on the "8 washer" that sits on either side of the blade, with a hand drill, and it gave me a case of the vapors, though it seems to have worked for him. There was so little metal left on the "8 washer" when he was done, it spooked me. I'm looking for a method where the holes don't have to be enlarged, or if they do, it's a minor amount. So far I am liking your method.

I notice you got a really thin walled thread insert that goes through the "8 washer." Is that another turned-down heat set insert or is that a different piece of hardware? Because that's the area I'd prefer not to go enlarging any holes, and it looks like you did not enlarge.

Only the thin walled one was sanded down. The others where full sized and set with heat.
