Spyderco police model

I bought this Spyderco Police Model new back in 1988 or '89 at a knife store in downtown Minneapolis. I'm a casual collector and I know my knowledge level is well below you more hardcore folks. As the pictures show, this has been well loved and actually used as my daily carry for a lot of years. It's still very tight. I had it professionally sharpened once. I have zero idea if this is a rare or common piece. I have zero idea if it's a collectible piece. I'm wondering if the experts out there can give me an idea of what it's worth. The original clip has lost some of its spring so I just put this new clip on it before I took the pictures. The new clip is directly from Spyderco.

Very cool knife! Thanks for sharing. I’m really not sure what the value would be, but I appreciate that you’ve kept that nice Spyderco workhorse for such a long time. I myself have a modern production version of the Police model with FRN (nylon) handles and it is a superb knife that can really take some abuse. Cheers and welcome to the forum.

Very nice. My first Spyderco was the exact same knife but in plain edge.
Gifted it to someone long ago. Hope to replace it someday, have a current Police in the meantime.

I have what appears to be the exact same model, but it's a lot more beat up than yours. I believe it's an early Generation 2. As far as prices go, these are listed pretty often on eBay, so that would give you a rough idea.

First of all, what's updogg?
Thanks for the welcome and the kind words. This was my first nice, non Swiss army knife, knife. Based on my quick trip to eBay just now it looks like it was my first good investment, too. I'll never release my baby cuz she's been with me through a lot. I have several "nice" knives but this one and my custom ordered and built Chris Reeve, which was stolen, are (and were) my favorites.

Bought mine in 1988 too.

Price is what a collector is willing to pay.
I've payed as little as $85. Not willing to go over $180.
I don't like ebay or Reddit. Facebook is over priced too.

I still had to go through birth at that time so I can't really tell !
It's in good shape for so many years of carry ! I've seen some from the 80s sell for between 200 and 300 USD but they were pristine. I think once it's well loved, the worth you put on it will always outweight the worth of reselling it.
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Robin. Finally made an IG : ramo_knives

It's not something I'll ever sell. Almost every other blade I own is a tanto cuz I prefer that shape but the police model blade is something else. I've caught myself staring at it like I stare at some of my watches. Functional art. Easy to get lost in. That smooth blade '88 is gorgeous. Y'all have great taste around here.

Beautiful knives guys! There aren't many things I'd do if I could go back, but I'd definitely have jumped on the Spyder train. The sad part was I was definitely old enough to have done so....
