Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or if you've watched any of his videos before but I'm pretty sure he uses the same piece of wood to cut on since he began running cut tests.

No problem, it's amazing to see what's going on at such a small scale. That site is a wealth of information for edge junkies like myself.

Greetings, my name is Gabe, and I am the sharpener who sent that knife to Pete. If you want to see microscope imagery of this style of edge, check out this article done by Dr. Todd Simpson:Fireman wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 1:13 amIt shows us that we can alter our edges to the optimal for that steel or heat treat. The sharpener did an amazing job which brought out the best in the steel. A microscopic image of the edge would be quite beneficial so that we could replicate the results. I do a mirror polish or a rougher grit depending on the steel. LC200N usually gets a mirror edge from me while I like 1000 grit for others like S90V or K390.

And if you'd like info on how the sharpening was done, I made a video to show my exact method on this dual grit Mule:

Hey Josh, and Patrick, Gabe here (finally got around to joining the forum, the way I do most things... a little late haha). It was me who sharpened the knife for Pete's test, and for the scienceofsharp article. And yeah, I lean SUPER heavily into scienceofsharp for research, it's an amazing research. When Todd wrote the article on dual grit it changed the whole way I think about sharpening.p_atrick wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 12:53 pmThis isn't really Pete's method of sharpening. The knife come from Gabe at the Home Slice YT channel. If you go there and look at the videos on exposed carbide sharpening (what he calls "carbex"), Gabe repeatedly cites the Science of Sharp. I'm guessing he leans pretty heavily into that site and tries this stuff out for himself.Josh Crutchley wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 12:35 pmI know I bring it up all the time but you guys should really check out Scienceofsharp.com. There's an article about Pete's dual grit sharpening. It seems to create an ideal geometry for cutting sisal rope.

Thanks for the shout-outs. Let me know if you guys ever have questions.

Hey guys, not sure if all of you would have caught it, but I did an in-depth description of the sharpening protocol I used for this specific Mule sent to Pete. I publicize all my findings so that other people can benefit from them. This is the video tutorial for the style of edge I sent to Pete on the MagnaCut Mule:
