Re: What Spyderco knives do you want to see in ceramic
A folder might be challenging to make due to the interface between the ceramic blade and the metal lock parts. Greatly unequal wear could spell a warranty nightmare. A new fixed blade in the size of the Subway Bowie might be ideal.

Everything is a trade off. There are many good benefits but you are not going to use it to pry with but what spyderco knives are you prying with? Even if I have a tough knife, I still don’t pry with it. I used the kitchen knife in this material and I put it through a torture test as well as a try stick to do all the things that I would expect from a bushcraft knife. Only when I put a lot of lateral stress on hard wood did it give me some issue. The mule will reveal all. Being light, the odds of it damaging even if dropped on a ceramic tile floor will be greatly reduced. With normal use, there should not be an issue from my use. Watch that video. It outperforms super steels by a factor of two!

I think you’re right.
But the mention here of fine diamonds to maintain a ceramic edge had me grab my DMT Dia-Sharp Course plate and run my two Kyocera kitchen knives across it.
Lo and behold, contrary to my early conclusion that once dull, ceramic knives stay that way, I was getting a sharpening response, so now I’ll order a finer version, which will also address my 15V needs.
[EDIT TO ADD: Having run my Kyoceras across my just-arrived Dia-Sharp Fine, I pronounce these knives kitchen-ready. Maintaining ceramics (and 15V?) is now under my control.]
BTW, FWIW, and FYI, my Kyoceras were terribly stained, which I took as another sign of end-of-life. In my enthusiasm to reclaim an edge I gave each blade a 30-second wash with Bar Keeper’s Friend. They look like new, I kid you not. I can only wish the same for my teeth.
My optimism regarding a Mule is now heightened.

That's a pertinent remark. I wonder if it'd be possible to construct a full ceramic knife, locking mechanism included.
A backlock may not be feasible, but perhaps a framelock ? This would take advantage of the elastic property of this specific ceramic material.
Failing that, a UKPK as suggested by skeeg11 would prolly be the most realistic option for a folder.
Re: What Spyderco knives do you want to see in ceramic
I have little interest in ceramic fixed blades and no interest in ceramic folders. This thread triggered me to have a look at what was around. There are some interesting ceramic folders out there already. I didn’t realize there was even a market for them. Most seem gimmicky. A quick search showed some unusual models shaped like birds, Minions, Penguins and so on. All very cheap.
What I did find interesting is the Blanchewater Gear 3 inch folding ceramic knife. Cheap enough. So whilst it doesn’t advertise the flex aspect that Elastic Ceramic does, they do offer replacement blades.

There have been folding knives already made with this ceramic

Rope cutting ... I see it performed well for this. My concern would be cutting tougher materials.Fireman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 10:23 pmhttps://youtu.be/VwlGme6AUtI
People don’t abuse Rex 121 but this will out cut it
Tbh some of these newer steels are losing my interest. It's all about edge retention it seems lately.
On a positive note. It did do well and it is lightweight. I think you guys will enjoy it.

I'd be in for a mule. Maybe a kitchen blade as well if reasonably prized. However, I don't see any use for a folder in ceramic at all.

Aren't we talking about that kind of "bouncing and not breaking" ceramic?

Re: What Spyderco knives do you want to see in ceramic
I recall at least one company (possibly Boker?) had a ceramic folder out in the late '90s or so. I wasn't interested in a ceramic blade then and I'm not now. Ceramic might stay sharp longer, but it's brittle compared to steel.

And also the Counter Puppy
Make it a special edition with a burgundy handle.

Still plenty of steels I want to try before worrying about ceramics. S110V is close enough to a ceramic for me.
