Out Of Stock

Post by WyoJon »

Why is everything out of stock on the spyderco website? Is it limitations on steel? Labor shortage? Machines that cannot be repaired? The ebay prices are nuts. Every old used knife is selling for near list price on the auctions.

They are working on another factory expansion. I'm not privy to the plans, but the new building is about ten times the size of their current factory floor. Right now they are increasing production every month and still can't keep up with demand. They supply their dealers and distributors first, so their own webstore is short of stock

Thats good to know. I thought the current factory was pretty new. Ive noticed the spyderco booth at the western stock show is always packed, a line to get there. I think spyderco is the leading american folding knife manufacturer these days, since benchmade is trying to copy them and kershaw went odd.

OPFOCUS discount, and nobody else in the business treats those of us who earned it like that. But I certainly do try to support my favorite distributors.

Yep I couldn't believe how long I've waited to find OPFOCUS. I've bought dozens at retail

I'll second that. Spyderco is first class.

Sad to say I think we are also about totally sold out of the Spyderco C-60 Cruwear Ayoob model. Actually I'm surprised to hear that there are still a handful of units still on dealer's shelves. I'm trying to get enough change together to get one more SE unit.

I have also noticed that some dealers are low on certain Spyderco sharpening tools as well.

Stock has bin a problem for years now. Probably we are not going to see a solution quickly.
Even if the new factory is as large as they say. Its one thing to build a factory building its another thing making the factory run let alone run smoothly. Tis will cost allot of time since there are always nasty surprises around the corner you could not have foretold like with new Machines for example.
Also bigger factory probably also means bigger workforce and those are also not so easily trained especially nowadays.
