As I understand it the FRN Seki City K390 variants are regular production.

i want to try k390 and i definitely want a s2xl, but i think i'm going to hold out for a salt version of this one. as soon as i saw this knife, i wanted it in a green handle with pe lc200n.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Re: There'll be a Stretch XL lightweight in K390, right?.. RIGHT?!
I'm in for one as the ~70% edge-length-to-closed-length ratio ticks the box for me (I add only 66%+ models to my collection/carry rotation).
And after using and sharpening Seki K390 in other model, all I can say is wow this steel is amazing. I'm maybe an intermediate at most but was able to put a scary sharp edge on it with my Double Stuff 2 and a $12 strop kit. The Seki K390 models is all I'll be buying for my work/utility/edc.
What I'm hoping for though, is that the Seki K390 FRN color options now broaden a bit. I really like this blue, but a little variety would be nice soon.

I am a bit like you and appreciate a good edge to closed length ratio - though I am not as strict anymore, otherwise I would not like for example my REX 45 Manix LW as much as I actually do.
Anyway, if you haven´t already, you should have a look at the Stretch 1 (discontinued) too - it has an even a bit better ratio than the Stretch XL (which is very good in that regard already for a Spydie with choil): Edge to closed length ratio Stretch 1 = 71,7 %; Stretch XL = 69,8 % (for comparison: Manix 2 LW: Edge length 61,7 % of the closed length)
I think out of the Spydies that offer a finger choil only the Caly 3.5 is a still tad "better" than the Stretch 1 in that regard (Stretch 1 can stll be found for around $ 150 in VG10 and around $ 200 in HAP 40)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

They are!
I was (am) just not 100% positive that this is also true for models that came out AFTER Sal confirmed that (as opposed to only models that already existed back then)

I have noticed your posts around that we share appreciation for some similar knife attributes. Haven't been able to wrap my head around the Manix yet (but I might be willing to try!) because my EDC rides around in pocket realistically 99 - 99.9% of my day and used 0.1 - 1% of it, so slim/efficient carry design is my first priority really with usability and ergonomics mandatory but second. The Endura is my favorite example of this efficiency and the linerless Stretch XL may "feel" even trimmer sans liners weight (although full skeletonized liners do give me a fuzzy feeling). So I'm looking forward to finding out.
My VG10 Stretch 1 is my absolute favorite! You are right on about the HAP 40 model; with the better steel and orange handle that would be outstanding and I'm keenly watching for one to pop up available one day.
I'm looking forward to this linerless Stretch XL with upgraded steel, will grab one to be the "big brother" to my VG10 Stretch 1.

The HAP 40 Stretch 1 is actually still available at BentoBoxShop for $ 200 I think. In my book certainly worth the money, but some people don´t like the policies of that dealer (shipping costs, no returns...).
That said: A Stretch XL in K390 would/will be as good, if not better!

Ya I'm going to wait for the K390 Stretch XL, it'll be a real hybrid between my two favorites: My VG10 Stretch1 and my K390 Endura. Would love it even more with the Skinner Style blade in Burnt Orange though!

I REALLY like the G10 version (although they need to get rid of that pesky lanyard tube that is causing all of the issues). I'd take a G10 in K390 with Navy G10 scales. I'd obviously be all over a Cru-carta version as well!

Given that this is linerless, i'd rather have a Salt version as well. I prefer linered FRN knives honestly for EDC in steels in Cruwear/K390.

That´d be cool indeed!! (And if it is HAP 40 as usual with burnt orange, I´d not be disappointed either .Pointy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:57 amWartstein wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:39 am

Perhaps there´ll actually be an HAP 40 sprint of the XL? Or that Pakkawood KC version in that steel? Anyway, I am pretty sure they´ll stick with the straight spine).

Let’s also hope a dealer will go for an exclusive Stretch XL in a steel not offered by Spyderco . I think it would be a big seller , a lot of choices out there . MG2

I personally found Stretch 2 XL LW as a beast of a knife, starving to see it in k390!!!

Re: There'll be a Stretch XL lightweight in K390, right?.. RIGHT?!
That pretty much sums up my Endela. I have may other great knives, but that Endela finds it's way into my pockets as a primary knife probably 90% of the time. Two models of the LW Stretch 2 XL I'd love: K390 and Cruwear, but Magnacut would be nice as well.electro-static wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 11:05 amI’ll buy one. I can’t get enough Seki K390, I made a mistake by getting an Endura 4 in K390 as my first new pocket knife in 10 years. It does so many things well I’m spoiled by it, most other steels feel like a downgrade.Wartstein wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 10:40 amAs far as I recall Sal said that all the FRN Seki models would eventually get the K390 treatment, and so it is, right?

I sure hope that' this is also true for models that came out only AFTER he stated this...
... because the Stretch XL definitely and finally is the platform I'd love to try K390 in.
And this, despite I generally clearly prefer SE if I can get it in a "good pattern", even in PE.
What do you think? Will we see the K390 Stretch XL LW? ... and (how) soon?
I got a knife in 20CV next and found myself asking: Why does it dull so fast, why it it harder to deburr it?
Re: There'll be a Stretch XL lightweight in K390, right?.. RIGHT?!
regular offering. Check your favorite online knife shops.
Re: There'll be a Stretch XL lightweight in K390, right?.. RIGHT?!
Purchased a K390 (regular) Stretch and was amazed by its heavy weight in pocket--for an FRN knife!! It's fine for around town but not a knife I'd carry backpacking. So I'm waiting for the Stretch XL in K390 for reason that it's much lighter!! And the extra blade length is just a bonus.
I do wish there were not such a prominent hump in the Stretch handle under the ring finger, and if the grip pattern didn't go to the very edge of the handle, I'd sand it down for the sake of comfort. But it's a minor issue.

Not the XL (in K390, does not exist (yet? )).
