Liner lock color on Military S110V
Liner lock color on Military S110V
Hi guys!
I have recently made barter for Military S110V and I'm suprised about the color of the liner lock. It's more of mat gray.
Is it normal for this version?
Thanks for your replys :)

Yes, it’s normal. They almost look like flat Titanium in color…
But pictures always help!

Mine's 10+ years old, but assuming they're still the same, it's more of a sandblast finish that makes it dark.
Re: Liner lock color on Military S110V
Totally normal. I assumed it had to do with heat treat or something with that liner because I think all of the ones I've had were like this.

I never owned a military model, so I’m on a whim here, but I was under the impression this model uses titanium liners. Which depending on grade of such and surface treatment will be levels of grayer in appearance than stainless steel.

10-15 years ago i once had a Basic military and it also had the same finish on the liner lock.
Its one of the few knives i sold off to buy others that somewhere i kinda regret but you can’t keep or have them all in the end.

Mine has rust so I can confirm it is not titanium.aicolainen wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 1:36 amI never owned a military model, so I’m on a whim here, but I was under the impression this model uses titanium liners. I own 4 Militaries, the first one in CPM-440V, bought probably back in 2000. The liners on all of them are steel, not titanium. I don't think that Spyderco has ever used titanium on its liner locks, or at least not on the Military.
TBH, I would think that if the liners were titanium, they would most likely wear faster. I've owned titanium liner locks from other manufacturers that wore prematurely and developed lock slip fairly quickly. Of course, the lock slip could have to do with the geometry of the lock face/mating surfaces. But I also believe that all things being equal, stainless steel is harder and longer-lasting as a liner in a liner lock than titanium.

I stand corrected. I should probably not have involved myself in a topic of which I have no direct knowledge or personal experience, but I was pretty sure I had come across that information at some point. And up until proven wrong, it was a viable hypothesis to explain the observed color :)

Just received a new left handed Military. It has the matte gray lock bar and magnet confirms it's steel.

Didn't want to create other thread, never thought about it, but noticed that my Military doesn't have signature of Sal or Eric on the blade, is it possible for S110V release?

I own 4 Militaries, including one in S110V, and NONE of mine have Sal or Eric’s signature on the blade.
