Looking forward to this one. In the summer/warm season, I carry a UKPK Salt often. The upgrade to MagnaCut will be most welcome for me.

I really wish this came in drop point. I’m having a hard time picking up a second yellow leaf UKPK Salt.

100% agree. My serrated LC200N UKPK leaf point is certainly one of the handiest knives on the beach, but when it comes to PE, my preference would definitely be the drop point blade UKPK. Either way, a MagnaCut PE UKPK is the only knife on my must buy list so far in 2023.

i don't have a ukpk yet and have been considering picking one up for a while. this might just push me over the edge. i'm definitely more looking forward to the magnacut manix, but this will be great for traveling to more restrictive areas.

I’m going to pick both edges up when they become available. Such a great daily carry knife for normal tasks. My first spyderco was gifted to me which was a ukpk rescue in GIN-1 which has been since retired for sentimental reasons but have been waiting to fill the ukpk void, and these new ones will be perfect for that.

It is very attractive as an exceptionally stainless steel that has a balance of properties otherwise reported to be similar to CPM 4V.
The latter steel is lauded for a nice balance of edge retention and toughness, as well as a fine grain structure. There are other sources that go into much further detail.

For me, I’m interested in a Salt that is generally harder/more wear resistant and perhaps more resistant to deformation at thin geometries.
I like H1/H2 and LC200N, but MagnaCut looks promising as well.

I’m eager to test if MagnaCut can be fulfill this in my uses uses.

I don't consider myself a MC apologist, but, if you look at this chart from KSN, you'll see MC is an unusual and remarkable steel. It's a highly stainless steel (ss = blue dots) that has encroached on the performance neighborhood of tool steels (orange dots). It has CATRA scores similar to XHP and SPY27, yet toughness scores near 4V tool steel. Somehow, the designer managed to get most of the chromium to stay in the matrix and out of the carbides, a neat trick. No, it's not the King of CATRA, but it does many things well--hardness, toughness, and resistance--well balanced, a sort of "Renaissance Man of Steel."

I had few knives on my list this coming year as must haves for me. Seeing the UKPK in MC is now one more on the list. May have to dunk it in RIT though to differentiate from my LC200N versions.

Other than ease of sharpening and handle color, is there any reason to prefer the LC200N over the Magnacut UKPK?

LC200N has higher toughness.
It is still an excellent steel that has its place.
Utilizing H1/H2, LC200N, and MagnaCut should mean the Salts cover a very wide range of properties that have something for everybody.

LC200N has higher toughness.
Thanks. Based on my experiences with PE LC200N in the UKPK and spydiechef and Magnacut in the mule, and the way I use my UKPKs, I would definitely prefer Magnacut for this knife. I also happen to prefer yellow. However I’ve been very happy with my green UKPK Salt PE, especially considering what I paid for it, and doubt I’ll get a yellow Magnacut unless I break or lose it.

Sweet. I have been interested in the UK PK for a good while, but holding back any purchase in hope of a MC version. And that it would get the yellow scales.
Seemed likely to happen, but man did it surface much faster than I expected.

Look forward to finally give the widely appreciated UK PK a try, get a taste of the Caly DNA and what is very likely to be my first folding MC knife. Much to be excited about.

Out of the 4 UKPK Salt models only the LC200N PlainEdge has been released by Spyderco.

I bought a yellow serrated LC200N before the new year from a dealer. I guess you mean that the green LC200N plain edge is the only UKPK version released at this time of the announced switch to MagnaCut in the yellow ones? It’s a little confusing, sorry.
