Spyderchef in CPM magnacut

#1

Post by electro-static »

I took my spyderchef camping over winter, and was really impressed with how it handled every task that I threw at it extremely well, including wood processing tasks. The LC200N held up extremely well, and has me wondering… How could this amazing knife get better?

After the native 5 salt in magna-cut is released, are there plans to release knives in it made outside of the golden Colorado factory? I think that it would be a really sought after update to many of the salt series knives.

i really like the spydiechef as well. i do think magnacut is an upgrade over lc200n, but i'm not sure it's enough of an upgrade that i'd be buying any of my current knives again just for the steel. i will, however, buy the m2lw in magnacut as soon as it's released.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I am one of the biggest proponents of LC200N. If you don’t have experience with it, you should. It tunes up an edge so easily. It should be a large camp knife due to its toughness and imperviousness to corrosion. I have a dozen years of experience with this steel. I would love to see an XL Spyderchef in either LC200N, Magnacut or Vanax.

Just to have a Spydie Chef that scratches a bit less, I'd be all for it ^^
Since I already have all the knives I could ever need if humanity start eating only cardboard, another "useless" buy like this wouldn't hurt me :open-grin
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

I just used mine for camping, does extremely well with camp tasks, even making tinder, or cutting steak on a cast iron griddle pan. I just wish it stayed sharp longer.

I don't cut up steaks in a cast iron pan. My edge seems to last a long time.

As much as I'd love the thought of a MagnaChef, the foreboding future of inflation and price increases makes me think this one will easily break the $270-300 range if it ever comes to pass.

I'd prefer to see a Spydiechef in CTS-XHP to align it with the other Slysz collaborations. I'm not hyped about MagnaCut at all given how difficult it seems to be for a manufacturer to work with as far as folders are concerned.

I don't know if XHP hits the mark for being a Salt level super stainless steel.

XHP is definitely not a super stainless steel, but if the Siren got a sprint in S90V, which has lower corrosion resistance than LC200N or H1, then I don't see why the Chef cannot get a variant with XHP.

I didn’t think LC200N has been out for 12 years?

It was under the name of Cronudur 30. I think LC200N is by a different manufacturer but same steel iirc

Judging from the flood of new designs in MC being intro'd by every major manufacturer this year, it certainly doesn't seem difficult for them to work with. The Spyderco salt troubles weren't with the steel itself.
