Kind of curious to see the Manix 2 Magnacut making the upcoming list, yet not the much earlier mentioned and available for pre-order (for the second year now) Native 5. As highly discussed as this knife is, is there something behind this? I don't recall this knife yet being released.

Native5 Salt is a bit confusing. It started in 2018 with Native5 Salt LC200N PE & SE Yellow FRN (Model Numbers C41PYL5 & C41SYL5). Then, when Spyderco revealed Native5 Salt MagnaCut PE & SE Yellow FRN the Model Numbers became C41PYL5 & C41SYL5. Subsequently, Spyderco revealed Native5 Salt LC200N PE & SE Green FRN with Model Numbers C41PGR5 & C41SGR5.

If I understand correctly, this is not listed due a technicality, essentially already having been revealed/released? It is kind of a strange "CQI"/update to withhold the same model numbers, yet to virtually change the entire knife other than the color of FRN (and edge configurations).

Native5 Salt MagnaCut Yellow FRN really should've had new model numbers but instead it's using the model numbers of the old Native5 Salt LC200N Yellow FRN. All that happened to the Native5 Salt LC200N folders was a change of FRN color from Yellow to Green yet it got new model numbers!

They did the same thing with the change from S30V to S45VN in the Paramilitary 2 series. To me the blade steel is way more important to keep track of than the scale color. It did change with the Paramilitary 2 Tanto, Wharncliffe and Emerson Wave blades which were also all S30V and Black G-10 initially.

Native5 started with S35VN in 2011 and around 2018 switched to S30V while keeping the same model numbers.

It would be one thing if only the blade steel had changed, but from what I've gathered, it sounds like everything has had to change in order to introduce this Magnacut Salt variant, minus the yellow scales.

I'd like to add that Yojimbo to my purple Cru collection, but the price is just out of my reach for now. $196 compared to the last DLT Yojimbo 20CV DLC which I got for $172.20, a whopping $23.80 increase.

The DLT Yojimbo2 CruWear DLC with G-10 at $196 is a relatively good price when you compare it to the regular production Yojimbo2 S30V DLC with G-10 at $217!

It was meant more as a joke, however new old stock shows up for sale at retailers sometimes decades after production has stopped, or changed. Retailers will go in and buy deadstock from a company and sell it as NOS. Happens to companies who produce butchery/culinary knives quite a bit more than one would expect.

I emailed Spyderco about the in stock Native5 Salt SpyderEdge with Yellow FRN (C41SYL5) on whether it’s LC200N or MagnaCut. The image, description and specs say LC200N but it should be MagnaCut.

Once people know this, it’s going to sell out immediately! I’d imagine this means it’s going to start showing up at retailers soon too.

I’m saying that the Native5 Salt with Yellow FRN is in their 2022 catalog with MagnaCut (C41PYL5 & C41SYL5).

I haven’t heard back from Spyderco.
