I’m hoping to see a new button lock model.

Getting the Protech Malibu was a huge eye-opener as to how good a properly executed bottom lock is. Imo, that lock is the future.

Looking at current knife trends, one of the fastest growing segments seems to be button lock models. I think if spyderco can catch up and get more models with this lock there are definitely gains to be made.

It's odd to me that there are currently so many spyderco models with back locks, and liner locks, and so few models with button locks and ball bearing locks. Can prolly count 'em on one hand. I'd like to see this change. Been tempted to go outside spyderco, but everytime I look there's something I dislike about the competition models, thumb Studs, flipper tabs, goofy grinds, steel to thick, or poor heat treat. So yea, I'm with ya, I'd prefer Spyderco bring on the button lock models.
Currently have 163 :spyder: 's & 41 different steels.
Bench Stones Atoma Diamond Plate 140,400,600,1200. Naniwa Chosera 400,800,1000,3000,5000.
Shapton Glass 1000,6000. Suehiro Rika 5000. Shapton Pro 320,1000,2000,5000,8000.
Naniwa Bonded Diamond 400,600,800,1000,3000,6000. Venev Gen2 OCB Combo Diamond 800/1200.
Spyderco 306UF, 306CBN. Doublestuff2 303FCBN2, & 204MF Sharpmaker w/204CBN for Spidie Edges.
Want List Steels 15V, S125V, K490, M398, Magnacut, S390, SRS-15, Vanadis 8, Vanax SC, Vancron SC,

I hear they are releasing a new Impala in Cruwear . . . . . or at least that is the rumor I am trying to start.
I do hope that there is some substance to that rumor. Because I would be all over an IMPALA model with a newer/better blade steel. It was a great hunting folder in the original VG-10 but I can't imagine how nice it would be with K390, Cruwear or even M390. Another great GOLDEN ERA (1998-2004) model that needs to be resurrected.

But I could add at least 8 to 12 more models from that era as well.

No substance at all, just wishful thinking and maybe trying to start a groundswell to see this one come back in even a limited release.

You see the effort JD went through to get the Ayoob sprint to return, so you'll have to meet or beat his effort. I feel pretty confident in saying it would sell well if it retuned as a Sprint.

My next collaboration? :)
Yes, please. Getting a lot of use out of my Spyderco Serratta and loving my custom Serratta. What are you thinking of next?

Sal has two in the long, long, long, long queue...one fixed, one bending the middle... :) Think Comp Lock?

Things I'm hoping for from Spyderco this year.

The return of these current production designs that are currently out-of-stock at my local authorized dealers:
  • Shaman DLC PE
  • Native 5 Fluted Carbon Fiber in S90V
  • Jumpmaster 2 (possibly in H2 steel?)
Previously revealed designs (or designs that have been mentioned by reputable sources to be in the works):
  • Swick 5 PE
  • Microjimbo
  • Mini-P'kal/Lil' P'kal
  • Military 2
  • Screw-construction Caly 3/Caly 3.5
Models that I wish were happening (i.e., the "wishful thinking" category):
  • A regular production variant of the Yojimbo 2 in CruWear, Magnacut, SPY27, or S45VN (heck, I'd take a Sprint Run at this point, so long as it's not a dealer-exclusive & is given international distribution so I have a chance at getting one from a local authorized dealer)
  • A Siren 2 to replace the recently-discontinued Siren
  • A Lil' Temperance 3 Lightweight trainer
  • A Yojumbo trainer
  • An Endela trainer
  • A regular VG-10 Endela with Zomé Green FRN handle scales
  • A new break-out design that captures the interest (and wallets) of the larger knife community, either from one of the company's reliable standby designers or an up-and-coming new collaborator, something different from the recent variants & iterations of the company's past successes.
And most of all:
  • A return to pre-inflation pricing (hey, a guy can dream, right? :D)

Be careful what you wish for. That would probably involve another Great Depression with all the hardships it involved. The cutlery companies that survived the last one did so making basic no-frills working tools.

I'd like to see a Chapparal in Denim Micarta.

I'de like a g10 delica in hap40 or zdp189 preferably. But I wouldn't turn it down in a different steel either.
Even a rerun of a past exclusive would count.

Combining the last 2 posts how about a hap40 denim Chap? Still love my Wharnie hap40 Delica, takes such a great edge.

I'd like to see some new designs coming in around $100 or less. I'd like to see Spyderco shake up handle materials, maybe dip their toes in the button and axis/crossbar lock arena (new Sage anyone?). The last couple years have been the least interesting in Spyderco for me and I have picked up the fewest Spydies in a long time. Looking forward to them getting back in the game after a long period seemingly dominated by exclusives and re-issues.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)
