I'll never not prefer the Gen 3 Delicas and Enduras. All they ever needed was an adjustable pivot. None of this liner nonsense of the current models. One piece handles, no nooks and crannies to collect stuff inside the handle scales.

I miss the "dinosaur" and "gear" jimping styles and wish they'd do different styles of jumping on different models once in a while. The gear style on my original Native was so cool. The dinosaur style on the old Military was cool too and I wish there was a modern refined version of it.
Forgot about the old native jimping. That gear style really locked you in. Such a comfortable design that one was

The GB1 is a knife I wish I’d never sold, and I barely carried the GB2 for a day before I knew it wasn’t for me. Part of it is that I’m a sucker for the feel of a finger choil, and the GB1 was just built like a tank. I’ll get my hands on another one some day and never let it go.

C91 Pacific Salt (2 did not get me to buy it)
C95 Manix (loved the 2, then came the 1)
C134 Bradley Folder (2 did not get me to buy it)

EDIT TO ADD: How could I forget the C94 UKPKs and C127 Urbans? The Golden-made, with their opposing-head pivots, are superior to the Maniago-made, with their spin-prone pivots.

i don't know why i'm surprised to see so many mentions of the older pac salt and gen 3 delica and endura, but i am. i find that the handle shape works better for me as well and i also prefer the old texturing better for the salt models. i think the new texturing is better, but i know i read somewhere that the volcano grip was originally kept because it was less abrasive to wet hands. i find it to be more comfortable in my waistband too; both the texturing and the contouring of the handle around the edges.

the native 5 handle is great in my opinion, but i prefer the older style grinds on the blade. the ffg and mini swedge just isn't nearly as attractive. i also prefer a hollow grind for a knife like the native, which isn't really tall enough to get thin behind the edge with a flat grind.

I never had a Gen 3 Delica or Endura, but I did prefer the finer point of the tip - more like the military family. I definitely prefer the Gen 4’s bidirectional texturing.

At first, I preferred the Stretch 1 on the Stretch 2, but now I don’t even remember the difference.

Wartstein, where are you?
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Salt 1 and Pacific Salt 1.

That said, I really like the current models too.

^ Yep. I have the Chin 3 and, while nice, it isn't the eye candy of the original. That trad Bowie shape with hollow grinds is very attractive.

I also preferred the original Persian to Persian 2 even though I usually go for flat grinds.
Good one Bolster i totally forgot about the Persian! The first one was such a beautiful design.

I mostly prefer originals to "new and improved" models. I like the Calypso Jr. over the Caly3, the original C44 Dyad over the Sprint version, the original C54 Calypso over the Sprint, the original C95 and C101 over the Manix2, the original C55 Starmate over the Japan reboot, etc. I even prefer the first generation C07 Police over the second generation, although that one is very close. I like the bevelled handle on the gen2, but I prefer the lock placement on the original.

Maybe it's a reality check. Not all "improvements" improve anything.

Of the ones I have, nope.
I haven’t held previous versions of all of them, but I don’t think any of their predecessors would fit my current preferences better or are better knives in general.

The Spy27 LW Native is the best LW Native.
The Swick 6 is the best Swick.
The Endura 4 is the best Endura.
The Delica 4 is the best Delica.
The UKPK Salt is the best UKPK.
Spyderco’s CQI (that’s what this is right?) really pays off, at least for me, but I think also for Spyderco.

Honestly, much prefer the original FRN texture on Golden and Seki to the most recent one. No problem with Taichung though.
Recent favourites: Massad Ayoob CPM CRU-WEAR PE & SE, Yojimbo 2, Lil' Temperance 3.

Stretch 1 has a better handle and blade shape than the Stretch 2. Especially the new straight-spine version. It's not a Stretch without curves!

The original C44 Dyad with a linerless Micarta handle is better than the G10/steel liner sprint that was released a couple of years ago. It was only a couple of years ago. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Does that include the Spydiewiki that claims it happened in 2013?
