Question about native 5 in fluted carbon
Just received the cf native and while it is gorgeous I noticed the holes around the pivot and hardware look a bit uneven and rough around the edges. I was just wondering is this how they usually look, I am fine with it I just want to make sure it's legit.

Here are som macro shots of the clip screw holes on mine. I think due to the nature of carbon fiber, you may see some chipping around the holes.

Here are the holes on mine as well. I would agree that the chipping/deformation around the holes is probably just an effect of the difficulty in drilling through carbon fiber.
Your model looks completely legit, and in my experience the chipping/deformation has had no effect on disassembly/reassembly of the knife. Enjoy the new knife - it's a beautiful model!

Re: Question about native 5 in fluted carbon
Dang, makes me wish I had picked one up while they were on sale. I love the N5 but sadly I don't have a CF version.
Re: Question about native 5 in fluted carbon
I have a few CF Spydercos and mine have had a few little chips and fibers around the machined holes, too. I've seen it happen on other larger CF parts, too. From what I've seen it's kind of the nature of the beast when dealing carbon fibers unless the edges are sanded.

Re: Question about native 5 in fluted carbon
I've worked a few cf handles and they've all had tiny pockets where air bubbles hid in the layers and resin. Have my N5 in pocket so I'll take a loupe and check it out.
Edit: mile looks like the pics above. Without magnification I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I missed it. What was the sale price?
I keep saying I'll buy one but never do. I have the 40th Ann Native that makes me happy though

Re: Question about native 5 in fluted carbon
The delivered price of $221.76 during the MAP holiday was very close to the price of $215.97 back in August 2017 when it was first released.

Ok still not low enough to get me to bite. I've thought about doing a temporary blade swap but I like the Damasteel in the 40th Native too much. I'll stick with what I have

Re: Question about native 5 in fluted carbon
Man, that is a beautiful knife. And the Native 5 is one of if not my favorite model.
But try as I may, I just can't love carbon fiber. I have a couple Spyderco's with CF and I like the models in spite of having it.
I guess I'm hoping that someone is going to sell me on this one one day.

Re: Question about native 5 in fluted carbon
Are your other models the peel ply carbon fiber? I think that is also nice, but this fluted carbon fiber is a totally different animal!billdoier72 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 9:50 amMan, that is a beautiful knife. And the Native 5 is one of if not my favorite model.

I really like the texture of the fluted CF. It has just enough texture that it's not slippery and it doesn't eat your pockets upTkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 9:54 amAre your other models the peel ply carbon fiber?
