Coastguard Spyderco Spotted

#1

Post by Pinetreebbs »

Spotted a Spyderco Rescue knife in a YouTube video about Coastguard Rescue Swimmers. The video is, "What’s A Rescue Swimmer? - U.S. Coast Guard - Smarter Every Day 279" video from the SmarterEveryDay channel.

You can jump to 15:50 to see the knife. I was surprised to see it was the black scaled Rescue and not the orange scaled Autonomy.

God bless the Coasties.

When I saw he was going to go over their kit I was expecting to see an Autonomy since it's their knife after all.

Coast Guard also does armed boardings of suspect vessels, so the those people might have the Autonomy. Obviously a far different role & needs than Rescue Swimmers.

I used a SE Mariner back in the day. Way better than the issue dive knives.

Rescue is a similar blade shape and good to go tied off in a vest.

Are you maybe thinking about the Autonomy 2? The Autonomy 1 is kinda-sorta an automatic Assist, or at least I wouldn't think the rounded sheepsfoot would be well suited for a self defense knife. I figured the penny pinchers saw the cost of the Autonomy vs the cost of an Assist and said nope they can do the same thing you don't need an automatic and stopped issuing them.

I was thinking of the A2, sorry.
