I would pretty surely buy the Schempp Khukuri and Wegener Ocelot if they were reissued.

C71 Salsa

I think the C71 Salsa is pretty obscure to many newer spyderfans. It was Spyderco's first foray into Taiwan production back in the day. I think they're very cool though, kind of like smaller friendlier lil' temps.

Question: Is there a correlation between "obscure/cool past models" and "past models that didn't sell very well"?
I think that you're right on that one. Also, most people buy 'by the eye' instead of holding a 'strange looking' knife in the hand, to see what the design is really all about.

The Salsa and Khukuri both had really good ergos for my grip.

The Salsa was very palm filling for such a small knife, and I love the cobra hood.

The Khukuri is one I remember handling in knife shops. Very comfortable handle, just wasn't sure it'd be more practical than something like an Endura.

Wish Spyderco never grew out of their foliage green phase. It's my favorite color along with black. I made a point to hunt down FG UKPK's, C95 Manix's, etc.

FRN Cricket. This completely changed the game for the Cricket, as it massively improved the knifes grip and made it faster to deploy, while still remaining quite compact. My #3 favorite Spyderco Design, and probably the most useful design for urban EDC tasks I encounter.

I rate it as 'obscure' because I can't recall anyone every posting that they carry or like this version other than myself.

I think the FRN Cricket is way overdue for a comeback in either a leaf shaped or wharncliffe blade.

Spydercard (upper right), Pro-Grip, Meerkat (with Phantom Lock, 2nd from bottom left), and FRN Cricket. I took this pic sometime back:

I would only be interested in the reverse-s shape, personally.
Not usually so against variations, but like what is a Cricket without the reverse-s blade shape?

Super on board for the FRN Cricket to come back, though. I really want one, especially a serrated one.

Picked up a Sub-Hilt Saturday. What a beast. Thinking hard of having the conversion done. I'll snap some pics this evening.

Yep, that was a cool model, with its "Tron" pattern scales :)

Nice, congrats!

I heard that one of the sons is continuing on and will do the conversion. I have not reached out yet to verify. Regardless of whether I can get it converted, it is one heck of a knife! How do you like it since conversion?

Out of curiosity, what is "the conversion"?
I really love those high hollow grinds.

Double action automatic conversion. It uses the g10 bolster as the switch.

Wouldn't that be a Dual Action rather than Double Action?

I don’t know the difference… call it what you want - double action, dual action, I don’t think it matters.

The converted models can be used as an automatic with the bolster switch or as a traditional manual opening liner lock with the Spyderhole. That’s all.
