Yes, CPM-Cruwear is from Crucible here in the States.

Sal hinted before about different Japanese models getting Cruwear and SPY27. Hopefully we will see more of it.

I marvel at economics that allow shipment of steel from US to Japan and then back again, then being sold at a still-reasonable price. It's a miracle!

Seems like there has been more of it lately with exclusives. Latest is the Blade HQ M4 Delica. Cool to see. Though those Japanese Steels are no slouch.

The caly 3 is by far my favorite knife of all time. I'd love to see a new version, still in g10 with something other than vg10. Perfect balance, smooth as glass.I tried the hap 40 version but didn't care for the steel. IIRC the factory at the time was only working with Japanese steels.

The caly Jr is great, REALLY NEEDS JIMPING and a wire clip. Caly Jr 2 maybe?

Jimping the curved areas is too challenging for me, but where the thumb rests, it's a straightforward mod with an engraving bit. This mod has improved the "grippability" of the Caly Jr. significantly! Agree, the next iteration would be improved with some jimping.

BTW, love me some fishscale...what a great pattern.

Personally would love to see that combo on the 3 even more so but that would be a lovely combo on any of the Caly series

That's a version I wish would come back in a Sprint. Great patina you have there. Though honestly, would any exclusive or sprint on this model not be successful?

I absolutely second this. Superblue Caly 3.5 is an ultimate grail- I really hope they get made again someday.

Now that I've a UKPK Salt, I am much more closely interested in these knives.
I still prefer knives without forefinger choils, but it really is an extra comfortable knife.
I think I'm in for the 3.5 inch Canada Slipit, the Caly LW, and probably more.

From curiosity: Why? I've read Super Blue has modest edge retention, low toughness, and low corrosion resistance. On a scale of ten, KSN gives it 2.5 for toughness, 3.5 for edge retention, and 0 for corrosion resistance. What's the attraction? Sharpenability?

I only have one knife with Super Blue and, I can't speak for everyone, the attraction for me is how keen the edge gets with little effort. I don't pay much attention to edge retention, toughness or corrosion resistence. I do pay attention to the edge steels take and I like how SB responds. I also have Super Gold, V-Toku 2, HAP40 (a lot) and I like those for pretty much the same reason. I really only use my knives for every day kinds of things (boxes, packaging, and out in the garage, etc) and I'm not really hard on my edges. So maybe I'm not the best person to field your question but that's why I like steels like Super Blue

When the Super Blue sprints came out they were really popular. It doesn't surprise me that people are still interested in them

This year at Blade Show, I was standing next to Sal and another Spyderco owner. This owner pulled out a Caly Jr. with Super Blue. Sal kinda lit up and immediately said that it just wants to get sharp. Having no Super Blue, I can only imagine that it is one of those steels that gets really sharp with not a lot of effort. For those with average sharpening skills like myself, I would imagine that is an attraction. Also, for those that do not nescessarily want to spend a lot of time honing the edge.

It also achieves relatively high hardness. Toughness is a tough one. Cruwear is tougher than K390, but in my experience the edge on K390 holds up better than Cruwear. Depending on what kind of toughness you are looking for, one or the other may be more important. Chopping, maybe something like 3V. Folding work knife that only cuts, hard to beat something more in the realm of K390.

My guess is Super Blue is not ideal for either of the above. But fun nonetheless. I believe it is used in Japanese Kitchen knives, so I could see the attraction there with the ease of getting a super sharp edge.

I've been reading around since I asked, and I think you guys ^ are correct...it appears that Super Blue is easily brought to a very keen edge. I have to admit: I can't say that about a lot of my knives!
